Any ideas for good, fast-paced workout songs?

I have a special workout mix on my iPod with everything from Eminem to Aerosmith, but I've listened to all the songs so many times that I'm getting bored. It's getting difficult to stay on the treadmill for extended periods of time without new and exciting songs. What songs keep you pumped at the gym?

If you have internet on your phone, you should add a app called pandora. It is free internet radio and all you have to do is type in your favorite artists and it will play their music and music similar to that. I was in the same position as you and then I got into a new genre which is electronic and the majority of the music pumped me up.

I second the Pandora recommendation. I run it over the Internet on my television and dance when it's too late or the weather is too bad to go out for a walk, or just run it when I'm doing chores around the house to keep a bounce in my step. You can create different stations from different songs or artists, and you can mix up genres on one station if you want, and as you tell it thumbs up or down for the songs it plays, it figures out what you want. Or you can just select from genre-specific stations, or listen to stations that other users have created. I have several different stations with songs that get me moving, from pop and rock oldies to dance music to syntho-pop to up-tempo swing, jazz, and big band.

Because the app is choosing the songs, based on your previous preferences, you're likely to hear new music you haven't heard before, at least at first. You could add those to your iPod. If a station you've created gets too predictable, you can always try adding new "seed" songs or paring back the list of songs you've thumbed up, or just go create a new station from one of the less familiar songs you've liked.

Some songs that get me on my feet (most of these are so old that maybe they'll be new to you ;-)

    Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Jump in the Line - Harry Belafonte
Rock this Town - Stray Cats
Is She Really Going Out with Him? - Joe Jackson
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen
    Call Me - Blondie
I Ran - Flock of Seagulls
    Little Red Corvette - Prince

Some songs that get me running faster:
    - Lonely Boy (The Black Keys)
    - Footloose (Kenny Loggins)
    - Unbelievers (Vampire Weekend)
    - The dog days are over (Florence and the Machine)
    - Itchin' on a photograph (Group Love)
    - Ways to go (Group Love)
    - Counting the Beat (The Swingers)
    - It's nice to be alive (Ball Park Music)
    - No hope (The Vaccines)
    - Stay Useless (Cloud Nothings)

Also, pop punk bands like Blink 182, Greenday, The Living End - always fast-paced

For me, it is a combination of beats per minute and emotional connection to the song that gets me moving faster. If you are the same, these songs may not do it for you.

    1. Based on some of the songs on your list, I'd say you would love Zumba ;-D

    2. I added a Steam Powered Giraffe (steampunk band) station to Pandora yesterday. Pandora responded with Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. And now I'm like DOWNLOAD ALL THE SONGS!

I really like electronica for when I work out - , EDM, drum and bass, happy hardcore anything with a high BPM count for when I am doing cardio. I really like She's My Pusher by the Crystal Method (or any Crystal Method), Swamp Thing by Junkie XL, Fluke, Bassnectar.. but whatever it is, it must be fast.

Also, completely the opposite, I love 80s music.. Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls, Tears for Fears. Go figure. It's such a nostalgia trip to hear The Thompson Twins while on the elliptical.

Do you know how many heart BPM you want to sustain? You can go here: http://walk.jog.fm/ and enter the # and it will bring up pages of songs that have that beat! Very helpful for me when walking.

Well, I see everyone loves their music and is promoting Pandora, but heck, I use Audible to find a book I want to listen to and the time just flies by. Before I know it an hour has gone by, especially when listening to something like Tom Clancy's Threat Vector

Currently I've picked up some very old classics extremely cheaply and been listening to those. Right now I'm half way through 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

There's plenty of selection and there's definitely no problem with repetitiveness. You can find all kinds of deals to either get a cheap starter membership or even two free books, such as audible.com/twit2

It's worth at least a look.
