I need advice !

I am new for at least the third time ! but I am trying again. I gave up when so many sad things happened around me. now I need to get on track again. I need to see what you all out there do for diet plans. anyone follow the weight watcher idea of counting points ? or is it easier to count calories ? Do you do your food planner as you go through the day...or mornings up front...or write it all at the end of the day ? What works best for you all out there ? please help me .

I count calories & watch my macros. It's easier for me to enter each meal in my diary as I go so I don't forget to enter something.

Some people enter what they're going to have the day/evening before to plan out their calories. I've seen some Weight Watcher folks posting in the forums so hopefully some of those will be along to chime in.

    Good luck on your journey!

I find this easier then WW, because I eat a lot of fruit and veggies and due to their free points I never actually hit their points target and didn't lose weight. I quite like to log as I go with my phone. The thing is I have started to get it in my mind that this isn't a diet, that it is me redefining my lifestyle. I don't need to see results every day or even every week, I do need to stop overeating and have smaller portions. It works for me. My inspirations are the fact that both my mother and grandmother are both obese and they have dieted all their life, so I am trying something different. Good luck on your journey :-)

    Welcome back --

I count calories and I have the best luck when I preplan my diary/day as much as possible before I eat. When that's not possible I log after the fact. I just find it less stressful to do it first. As for what I eat, I don't follow any idea that says one food is better or worse than any other food I just eat all foods in moderation.

You can totally do this. It's hard sometimes and it's stressful sometimes and sometimes you just want to freaking scream, but you can totally do this. And as long as you're back here I don't think you can say you gave up :)

ETA: After reading the post above mine I'd like to add, if I didn't have a DUMB phone I probably would use the app as I went through my day but since I do this all from my desktop computer, pre-logging is easier.
  • Hey...pay no mind to any nagging thoughts about trying again. The great thing about life is that it's yours and you can give yourself all the chances and start overs you want. The main thing is that with every new start you are STILL moving forward.

I did weight watchers after I had my son. I got within 10 lbs of my goal. I gained that weight back while working a desk job that I was miserable at.

So here I am, 8 years later and back at it but this time it will be for life. My body is helping me too because it simply won't tolerate certain foods anymore (all the really tasty, bad stuff) Haha. Now I just try to stick to whole foods because I've never gotten sick after eating an apple or a salad. ;)

Be patient with yourself and "just keep swimming..."
  • Thank you...I like the "just keep swimming".... I will.
  • I only have a "dumb" phone also ! Thanks for the advice !

I find planning the day ahead much easier. Actually, planning for the week in advance (dinner menu especially) then taking that as your grocery list, really helps keep you on track, with your money and calorie budgets! Log everything you plan to eat for the week on the weekend, or whatever day you have the most free time, then edit small details as you go. It makes the day-to-day logging much easier and gives you an idea of the big picture.

Hi started last week for the first time.. stress is the hard part.. 1 get on this board before anyone else is up.. 2 plan your day for food.. if you are by yourself it should be easier.. with my hubby ppfftt he has lost 4 pounds this week hahahah 3 just keep to the plan are you home all day like me.. plan the things you do to clean wash and rake the yard for exercise.. walk get out of the house and to a mall don't shop walk .. I go to our casino 3 times a week seems like there are several that do that to not to gamble but walk there is a ton of room and security in the building and out.. mmm maybe I will hit the executives there on an idea for the winter to get people into one of the big rooms for a walk around . worth the try... you can do this because it is for you and no one else.. we will do this come on people its Army PT time hahahahahah ardy richter Blue Star Mom...:noway:
  • Count your macros!! Its worked for me so well (I follow a 30:30:30). I also enter my whole day ahead so I know what I am dealing with...helps resist the "oh its just a muffin/cookie/whatever" syndrome. Im also never...EVER hungry (1300 cal/day)

You shouldn't go on any "diet plan". You need to make a lifestyle change or you'll be back in a few months for a fourth time.

Pre-planning my meals works best for me! I have a rough weekly plan when I go food shopping, but I log everything in the morning before I eat. This helps me stay on-track and, if I change my mind, I know how many calories should be allocated to a given meal.

I find counting calories easier than working out points! I usually fill in the food diary on a morning once I've thought about what I'd like to eat that day just to see how many calories I have left over and then if I change my mind I just change the diary to work out how much of another food I can eat. Good luck! x

Honestly, counting points is not very practical in the real world where counting calories is. The idea of points is just to keep you coming back to them, eating their food, following their methods. Learn to measure food and count calories and you are free to eat what you want, not what you are told.

I just count calories and log as I go, typically. I find when I try to log it at the end of the day, I forget to add things.

What works best for me is to keep my mind on the weight loss and my journey. Maybe it's a bit obsessive, but if I'm actively thinking about it, I'm more likely to make smarter choices so that later on down the road when I don't have to think about it quite so much, those smart choices will be natural to me. (I'm not crazy, I promise I think about more than just weight loss, haha.)

This is my third time back too! I also tend to give up when family issues happen, as food is what comforts me!

I tried Weight Watchers before. I did it about a couple and lost a few pounds, but I didn't like the points system. EVERYTHING has calories listed on the box, but not everything has WW points. It is easier for me to shop and add my calories than it is to have to scan the bar code on everything and use Google to find points at restaurants. On top of that, you have to pay to use their tools! The MFP app is simple to use for tracking my calories, and they now have a barcode scanner to add your foods with.

But the number one difference for me? The support I get on MFP is AMAZING. Maybe if I had gone to WW meetings and all of that, but who has time for that!? I lost more in two weeks of MFP than I did the entire time I was on WW! I found amazing people to cheer me on, and the message boards are full of knowledge from people in all walks of life. WW has nothing like that on their site, at least not when I used it. I have a long way to go until I am at my goal, but I know that trying to do it without MFP is nearly an impossible feat!

Good luck on your journey and I'm sending an FR your way. :flowerforyou:

Sorry that sad things have happened to you this year, I hope you heal soon. I too have had a sad year where it started I lost my dear mum in the New Year. I count cals in here coz I can do that for free without having to pay for WW & I couldn't help but think that WW is a bit of a ripoff e.g. they have products which in comparison to other products you'll find at the supermarket for double or triple the price. I count my cals as the day goes on and if I'm not near a computer, I have a little notebook to keep my food diary, then enter in the details later that day or when I have time. Count your cals and exercise at least every 2nd day and intensify that exercise gradually and I bet you'll see results. Good luck to you and welcome back. I hope your year gets better from now on :flowerforyou:
