I have no idea how to eat while im pregnant
I am about 30 ish pounds overweight 5'7 (170 I should be around 135-140) So I don't think I should gain that much weight while pregnant probably 15 to 20 lbs
Last time I was pregnant I was 17 so its been a while I gained 40 lbs ate everything in site (way too much said the doctor because i was more overweight then)
I need help.
I don't know how much protein or carbs or fats to eat
I don't know anything.

or personal experience would be really nice.
I don't want to throw junk into my babys system, I don't want to be super overweight like I was with my first, I want to continue to exercise and be a super healthy.

  • I've heard that while you're in the first trimester you should switch to maintenance and eat as many fruits and veggies as possible.

As for gaining weight, I'd talk to your health practitioner about that one.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Does your doctor recommend a nutritionist who can assist you with this? It will likely be more sound advice than you can get from anyone here...

    Wishing you lots of luck!

Use MFP to monitor HEALTHY food choices for your baby instead of calories. Ask your doctor approximately how many calories you should be eating. I didn't eat anymore than 2000 calories at any point and I gained a healthy amount of pregnancy weight. Take a prenatal vitamin. Unless there's a medical reason you can't exercise, you can continue well into your third trimester. Walking is always a good exercise. Again, check with your doctor on what is or isn't okay for workouts.

Also, I suggest you peruse the pregnancy groups on here. There, you should be able to find support and guidance from others that are also in your position.

ETA: Booooooo to military doctors. Sorry that you have to deal with that. I've been there. :-/
  • Have you talked to your doctor? I'm also pregnant, but haven't had my appt with my doctor yet. This is my third pregnancy and I'm planning on doing things very differently to avoid the 60 lbs and 45 lbs I gained with the previous two babies.

You really only need a few extra hundred calories a day. Try logging everything you eat. I set my MFP settings to maintenance and it gives me 1,800 calories a day to consume. Prior to getting pregnant I was on a 1,200 calorie diet. I'm finding it difficult myself to consume so many more calories a day. I am just focusing on eating healthier, smaller portions...just like I was doing a few weeks ago (pre-pregnancy). I am avoiding soda and seafood as best I can. It's best to have them in moderation.

Hope this helps. Congrats to you and feel free to add me as a friend. We can help each other along the way =)

I would suggest talking to your doctor. This is yours and possibly your babies health. You need to do it right.

I didnt eat any more than usual while pregnant and still gained 8kg.

Just eat a normal amount of food, and eat when you're hungry. Dont try to lose weight until after you give birth.

I'm 5'2, 197lbs and 14 weeks 1 day pregnant. I started out pregnancy at 211lbs. I talked to my doctor and we came up with a plan that allowed me to lose 4 pounds each month of my first trimester and we have adjusted my calories now to lose 2.5lbs a month for the rest of the pregnancy. We also talked about exercise and I continue to do everything I did before and then some. I hiked almost 8 miles last weekend! This is my personal experience after consulting with a doctor.

So, suggestions. Talk to your doctor, explain your weight concerns, they can advise you on a caloric intake proper for your size and stage in pregnancy. Request to see a dietician/nutritionist so you can make sure you are getting all you need.

Edit: I'm not eating any more than normal and I am actually still eating at a deficit of my maintenance calories. This is all doctor approved though. Feel free to add me if you want! =)
  • I edited my previous post to have the link to this group, but I just noticed that they have a huge write-up at the beginning that may be worth a read to you. :)
