and why does it make everyone sound american(or canadian)?
I have wondered that ever since i was in high school, and I heard an interview with Scorpion on Metal Shop. I had no idea what those guys were saying from their thick German accents. I was surprised because I never would have guessed that the group was not American.0 -

I think noob was referring to songs sung in English by people with accents that are not North American, and how they end up sounding very North American.0 -
You want the real answer?
Sung vowels (and many consonants) in any language are not identical to the spoken ones. To produce an appealing sound in any style music, some modifying happens (most noticeably in classical music where English vowels take on an almost pure Italianate shape, but in pop, rock, etc too.) Diphthongs change, usage of schwa...tons of stuff. It's not really that everyone sounds American but that everyone sounds the same and people are used to the sound of American sung English.
When you hear for example a singer who sounds really British, it's typically because they're using their accent for stylistic impact.
ETA: the conventional thing in pop right now is a modification to flatter, more nasal American vowels, while in the past it was a fuller more classical kind of vowel. Stuff goes in and out of fashion.0 -

Maybe like Keith Urban who is Australian and when he sings you would never know. He sounds very North American.0 -

Try listening to the Arctic Monkeys.... they definitely didn't lose their accent in their music.
But then there is Pheonix with their thick French accents that do sound American when they sing. Who knows….0 -
