Missing workouts

I know occasionally missing one day isn't bad, but I've always been confused on what to do if you do miss a day, esp when following a workout schedule. I just learned it's bad to double up to get your "missed" workout in...but what is better?

Skip that workout and follow your schedule, or push your schedule back a day and pick up where you left off? What do you guys do?

I skip that day because I have my schedule set up so that the next day for that training will come soon enough. In other words, I do some things minimum 2x a week, but they are scheduled for 3x. I plan to do the 3, but if I can't, I'll still always have the 2x that week.

For me, it depends on the workout. If I miss a day of C25K for instance, I pick up starting on the missed workout because it's about building endurance. So I may be doing week 3, day 3 on what is really my 4th week of doing the program. If I miss a day lifting weights, I usually just skip it and move forward because otherwise I get the entire schedule screwed up long term.

I do a three day weight lifting split, I miss a day for what ever reason I will can on the split order or example I will do ABC but if my day off it between B and C when I go back I start with CABCABC etc

I give myself 24 hours to make up a planned workout that I missed. If I dont make the window, I just switch gears and move on to the next planned workout on time and dont look back again.

I have a weekly plan. If I miss a day, then I just go on to the next day. What's done is done.

this girl on MFP got sick. she was about two weeks into P90x, and didn't work out for four or five days in a row. she wanted to know if she should do all four work outs in one day to catch up.

don't do that. if you miss a work out, do it the next day, or adjust your schedule. you're probably not following such a regimented work out plan such as a body builder or iron man triathlete. and even when they get sick or travel and have to miss work outs, they don't sweat it.

that is baffeling to me. I don't skip them I just start where I left off. seriously. There are no workout police for home workouts or self programs.

no one is going to come beat you up for missing a day. Just start where you left off- or skip the workout and do it next time.

this is different on some programs.

doing 5 workouts in one day? why is this even logical.

I can understand making up a workout- if you are only a day behind.... either doing a double or skipping a rest day- but the concept of just continually doubling up or never resting if you are weeks 'off'?

    baffling.

yes it's a program. But EVERYONE has days where crap happens. Emergencies- weather conditions- car problems- pet problems work problems... stuff that makes it physically impossible to get to the gym. just use your noggen and come up with an acceptable - reasonable- logical solution.

not a single program is going to suggest any thing that much different than- those two things: start where you left off- or skip a day.
  • I try not to miss workouts, you can usually do something. pushups and body weigh exercises at the hotel, running for even 10 minutes, something. I do doubles during the week, and run on the weekends about 10 miles,

but if you do miss one, just make sure that day isnt a cheat day! stick to your nutrition

  • Life is TOO short to be that regimented. I think we just have to learn to live & let some things go. It'll be okay.

yeah no- the baffling part is the obscene lack of common sense... nah- everyone misses a work out- it's life- it happens. LOL That doesn't concern me at all. It's the pure panic that seems to ensue. same with certain diets- people freak out- is this paleo- isn't it. bah- shut up and eat it. no one is going to come smack you for it. :)

    no worries.
