It depends on the number of calories you're eating. Based on a 1500 calorie diet: 213 carbs, 2500 sodium.

I heard 1600 milligrams of salt, so not sure how that compares to 6 grams. I knew it was lower than here in the States though.

as to carbs, yeah, that depends on what your calorie intake is, but generally 45 to 55% of your total calories should be carbs for most people.

as to sodium, anywhere from 1000 to 2500 mg is ok for most adults. The thing is, very high or very low amounts can lead to brain problems (over a long period). But also, sodium helps the body retain water, so if you have a lot, you may wake up the next morning a few lbs heavier, it's all water weight, but for some of you that ate that lean cuisine meal the night before (the ones with 1500 mg of sodium in them, OUCH!) you may be wondering why you didn't lose any weight this week when, maybe you did, but that extra sodium helped you retain a couple extra lbs of water the night before. That's also why marathon runners are prompted to eat sodium heavy meals the night before a race (that and carbo-load but that's not really trendy anymore).

Thanks for the info Banks! I have high bloodpressure so I really want to try and watch my sodium levels, what sucks is that everything good is high in both carbs and sodium. Well, not "good" but tastes good. Heh!

If you have high blood pressure, than the goal is no more than 2000 a day. And that is from the American Heart Assocation.

I've got HBP, too, and I aim for even lower--1200--a day.

It's easy once you get used to it.

    --Don't add salt when cooking

    --Avoid processed or prepared foods

--watch out for sandwich or deli meats

--dairy products like cheese are usually high in sodium, so be careful with them
