Nutrional Values of User Added Food

I may have posted on this before if so I apologise but I am increasingly annoyed (OK not that strong more concerned) about food items that are added to the database that do not contain full nutritional information. Many items only contain the calories. As a minimum I believe the database should be configured to force as a minimum the following elements:
Calories
Carbs
Fat
Protein
Sugar
If they don't have these then they should be removed from the database.

Some people are only interested in the calories.0

I am trying to keep track of my potassium intake to keep it at a good level for medical reasons, others may need to keep it low. I know it is in cheese and milk and cocoa but does it show in these, no.
The full range of essential elements would be very useful to many.
thank you
there are many more reason to log than just to loose weight.0 -
you can correct the nutritional value, if you want or need those. Just go on ->Food->Database, search for your food -> Edit0

OK I've taken on board the feedback re some people being only interested in the calories in food, so how about you can save a food item for your own use with whatever values you want / are interested in. However if you choose to make it available to the wider public then you have to put as a minimum in the following:
Calories
Carbs
Fat
Protein
Sugar0 -
Thanks very much for that. I have noticed a couple of the barcodes I have scanned have had incorrect numbers in (for example, how many mg of calcium rather than the daily % that MFP is showing). I couldn't work out how to adjust it. I can change it now so that one yoghurt doesn't show as 335% of my daily calcium lol.you can correct the nutritional value, if you want or need those. ^This and you also have to remember that mfp is a free site, so the responsibility of the accuracy of the database falls largely on the users shoulders...you get what you paid for.0 -
Why? You're always free to help out and edit missing information yourself. I don't think people should be obligated to add values they don't personally track unless they feel like it.OK I've taken on board the feedback re some people being only interested in the calories in food, so how about you can save a food item for your own use with whatever values you want / are interested in. we all benefit from the site, and a lot of us wouldnt be able to be here if it wasnt free, so it makes the user community better if you take the 3 extra seconds to put in all the information listed on the item. Thankfully you can go back and change it when you find others havent finished filling out the food values0 -
But for the fact that someone who has already entered a brand, an item description, a calorie content and a serving size has already assisted the community. I'm always happy when something I'm adding to my diary is in the database at all. Whomever put it there has already done me a favor by reducing what I need to enter (if anything) and I appreciate that other people using this site aren't my personal data entrants and, therefore, aren't obligated to spend time entering things that aren't useful to them.

If an entry has most of the info there (correctly), I simply edit it for the complete info I need.
Heck, I track sodium and potassium so I guess I should be chastising the OP for not entering that.
