Is there a way to tell myfitnesspal that I'm breastfeeding and need more than the 1200 calories the system allocated to me? Thanks!

yes, you can add 'breastfeeding' to your diary as you would an item of food and it gives you extra calories.0 -

Actually if you're exclusively breastfeeding it's 500. Later on when baby is having some solids it's 300 and you can adjust down from there the less you breastfeed.0 -

Depending on how much you want to lose, 1200 as a base may be too low, even if you add 500 for the breast feeding. Unless you are 75 pounds overweight or more, you should not tell MFP you want to lose 2 pounds a week. If you have less than say 20 pounds to lose, you should only set it to .5 a week. Some where in the middle...go for 1-1.5 a week. (This is a big flaw in the system, as most people don't realize that 2 a week is much too aggressive unless you have lots to lose.)0 -
Thank you!
I'm exclusively breastfeeding a chubby 18 pounder, so I'm guessing I"m allowed more calories.
Only .5 a week? I thought 1 lb. a week is a decent pace?0 -

1/2 a pound a week is the healthiest and most sustainable rate of loss. 1 lb a week is fine, though, especially if you're exercising.
You can add "breastfeeding" as a food and it gives you 500 calories as opposed to taking them away.0 -

^^This^^
It will also update your macros to what is required as well for breastfeeding. Please be careful trying to cut weight at that much of a pace. Your milk supply may start to go down. A smaller weight loss goal each week would help to make sure that you are still able to feed your baby as you desire. Best of luck!0
