I have MS and ran my first half marathon!

I'm really pleased with myself and just wanted to brag!! It means a lot to me that I today I ran the furthest I've ever managed - 13 miles - just over 7 years after I started developing multiple sclerosis. I thought my life was over the day I woke up and fell to the floor with blurred and double vision and vertigo and was hospitalised and told I had an abnormal brain scan aged 26. I'm not 100% - I get pins and needles each day, feel fatigued sometimes and feel a bit woozy when over-exerted, BUT despite that, I had one further relatively minor attack a few years ago and it hasn't been anything as bad as I first imagined.

I felt anything but 'lucky' when I found out I had MS, but you have to be grateful for everything in this life and I'm grateful I'm doing so well. Of course I know I'm not out of the woods yet but I appear to have it mild so far and my prognosis is looking hopeful. I know there are people with MS who start off straight away with a more progressive form and I really feel for them. They might not be able to brag about half-marathons, but sometimes just carrying on is achievement enough.

I saw a partially sighted runner taking part in the race today and a 90 yr old doing the 10K run. No matter what life throws at me, I've promised myself I'll never give up and will try to push myself as much as possible!

Oh and I would never have achieved this without 15 months off the *kitten*!!

Big congrats! My mom suffers from MS and its heartbreaking to watch how debilitating a disease it is. She was able to live a semi normal life but was not active and didn't watch her diet. I implore you to do both. At such a young age and keeping with healthy life choices you should do very well! Keep it up!!

Wow, very inspiring and a well deserved brag.

*kitten* means cigs right? In that case, even more inspiration I'm still trying to quit.

I am so proud of you. You're right, someone always has bigger problems than we do, and you have just inspired me to workout today... because for the most part I'm healthy, so what is my excuse? Congrats and keep pushing forward. :flowerforyou:

Thank you for sharing. I do not have MS, but I have a rare brain disorder that caused similar symptoms. I had surgery to relieve the symptoms, but your story inspires me to keep fighting toward my goals no matter what the situation is. Congratulations!

Oh my! What an inspiring post. Good for you and the best part from my read was how you've ran the most you ever have AFTER the diagnosis. That's effing awesome!
