Hello MFP

I am looking at getting into running when i have lost a bit more weight. I am wondering if anyone can recommend some good sites for shoes. I know what fit i am as recently had it checked.

    Hi ya!

    i use Asics for outside (cross country) in the woods.

    and i like my nike free 2 for the treadmill. it depends on the shape of your feet though which ones are good for you.

    however, i would recommend those two brands.

    go to a decent sports or running store. They will have a treadmill that they will watch your gait and advise you. I bought a brand that i had never heard of and a size bigger than I wear in shoes, never would have happened if it wasnt for them and they are perfect for me!

    More than likely, people will recommend you go to a running store. But it sounded like you're looking for websites?

    I'm in the US so this may not be relevant to you, but I've bought shoes from Shoebuy , ****s Sporting Goods, Amazon with great pricing.

    Heading to Picton Sports next week. My current shoes are now making my hips ache.

    sports direct have good running shoes, they are older models but still very good and not so pricey.

    try to find out your fit first though.

    Everybody is different and although I've never been fitted, I have read it is a good thing to do. I was a fan of a certain brand until I realized my feet were killing me in them. Not sure if it was the shoe, or my needs changed over the years. Now, I wear Saucony Cohesion which for me, are very comfortable, and very much affordable. I have wide feet so I have to get wide shoes. I stumbled on this shoe at a shoe store and have been buying them online ever since.

    I'm in South Wales and went to upandrunning in Cardiff. They were brilliant! I was having an issue with blisters on my insoles after a couple of miles of running. They had me jogging up and down High Street whilst they looked at my gait. They decided I had some over pronation but not a huge amount and gave me a couple of pairs to try (again running up and down High Street) until I found a pair I felt comfy in and they though helped my gait. I was expecting the trainers they recommended to be mega expensive (ie the premium end of the top brands) but, whilst not cheap the pair I ended up were mid-range Asics. Their prices were a little it more than I'd have paid on line but the service was invaluable especially just starting out as a runner.

    I'm not quite sure from the profile if you are from Cardiff, Wales, or Cardiff, Washington (or Western Australia), but assuming the Welsh one then for UK sites I've always found sportsshoes.com to be good, especially if you aren't worried about getting this seasons latest colours. They are usually among the cheapest and have always had good customer service. If you aren't desperate then sign up for their email and you'll probably have a money off voucher come through soon enough.

    Having said that I would, however, echo some of the suggestions that you are better off going to a specialist running shop where you can have someone look at your gait and recommend the right type of shoe (you say you have the size, but do you know if you need a support or neutral shoe, for example). There is a Run and Become in Cardiff, and their London shop is certainly very good. There's usually no obligation to buy: I often see people in my local Runners Need getting a gait analysis and then saying they'll think about it, which I assume means buy the type of shoe off the internet. Even if you do buy in store the few quid extra is well worth it for the analysis and you can just buy the same shoe online when you need another pair.
