Why do people do this?

So, I usually take lunch to work and it almost always includes greek yogurt. I buy the larger tubs because they're ost efficient, and I can leave it in the fridge at work. Anyway, I always measure out the yogurt when serving myself for obvious reasons and someone always has to make the commment "YOU MEASURE YOUR FOOD? WHY? YOU COUNT YOUR CALORIES?! WHY? YOU'RE ALREADY SO SKINNY...YOU'RE GOING TO DISAPPEAR! THAT"S NO WAY TO LIVE!"

Anytime I even mention my fitness goals I get looked at like I'm crazy because i'm already at a healthy BMI. Why don't people understand that skinny isn't everything? I want muscles.

It almost feels like reverse weight shaming, or weight shaming in general because skinny or fat it's still shaming.

Do you guys get this too?

Because people who have dedication to something scare others because it makes them feel bad about themselves. If they can convince themselves that everyone else is crazy then they can sleep better at night.

I bought a small fridge for my office so that I can keep stuff there and weigh it in my office. I plan on bringing my food scale to lunch because we are eating at Five Guys for a birthday and I need to measure out the french fries :)

Be proud that you are dedicated!

They're probably trying to be friendly. It is hard when people get too personal, but I would find a way to smile and blow it off.

People are dumb, that about sums it up. They will form opinions if you eat too much, too little, etc. Carry on with your life, you don't owe anyone explanations for anything.

People generally think that once you get to an ideal weight, you can stop doing whatever it was that helped get you there and go back to your old ways.

I know, it's annoying, and I wish that people would mind their own business. When people make comments like this, I just say something like, "Well, I didn't get this figure by shoveling heaps of food into my mouth with total disregard to portion control."

say, "And this is exactly WHY I look so fabulous!" with a huge smile and while doing a sexy little pose for them. Then ask what they are doing to look the way they do.

When I was fat I did something similar. My aunt ordered a salad at a restaurant with no cheese and I was like... WHAT? No cheese?! She was already super thin so I didn't see why it would make a difference. She looked at me dead in the eye and told me, "I didn't get this thin by accident." And I guess now that I am smaller I understand. Despite being at a healthy weight, you always need to monitor and control your intake your you will end up right where you started. It becomes a lifestyle.

Yes, I get this occasionally. I always think, well I am "skinny" because I do measure my portions - as opposed to using my weight as justification not to. Hello, then I would no longer be "skinny!"

    this.

I blew up at a girl who said the same thing to me- only she went "oh that's right- you're trying to be a size zero"

you don't know me. you don't know my goals. I don't have to explain it to you.

Also take a look around at the people you work with... my favorite is "if I want to look like you- I'll eat like you"

Also - if look this great was easy- everyone would do it. I hate when people tell me- but you're already X, Y or Z (thin, in shape whatever)... guess what- you know how I got here? hard fricking work!

Once you do it for a few months- they get used to it. Plus I measure all my food ahead of time- most people do one or two things if they cook in bulk. they either put it in ONE big container- or they put it into several smaller lunch containers. Right?
    Easy.

So I tell them- all my containers are the exact same size- I put the container on the scale.. tare it out and I put the food in. I takes literally a half a second longer to do that- than to pre-portion it by eye ball. Seriously- if you cook by bulk- it is literally NO extra work to portion/weigh. it's the people who cook every day- or eat out constantly that have a hard time- but logically if you look at how people store food- it's not THAT much extra work.

I also eat yogurt from a big tub- but I just pre-portion it all into said same size tupperwear. no one questions me really. NOM NOM NOM

I sometimes do because I have never really been that big to begin with. I just say something like, "that's not even a little bit true" in response to their ridiculous exaggeration and go on about my business.

People are idiots... lol... I ignore uneducated comments. Seriously. Foolish comments don't deserbe a response of any kind.

But I also never, ever use the work refrigerator. With good reason; I do not trust people to leave my things alone. I always take my own cooler & keep it at my desk.
  • Thank you ladies, for your responses. Next time i'm just going to say that I didn't lose 20+Lbs by not portion controling! Most of them are "trying" to lose weight anyway, but going about it the wrong way.

Do you think Caprica is worth watching?

and I get this a lot with my profile quote, BUT it's actually a quote from "The Office". I don't watch, nor have I ever watched BSG. Sorry. :[

I wear a BodyMedia Fit (even though I long ago lost the weight; I'm addicted to the numbers) and people often ask me what it is and I tell them. Sometimes they'll make a remark like "You're thin; you don't need to worry about what you eat." and I say "I do if I want to stay this way."

As the pp said, people think that once you're thin, you can just do/eat whatever you want without consequence.
