My 3 year old niece is staying with me next week...trying to think of what to have for dinner...I only eat brown rice, bread, etc..no white potatoes (sweet is ok) and don't eat a lot of red meat...turkey sausage, burger, bacon is ok though? Any ideas so I won't have to cook 2 dinners every night...

what about baking some chicken breasts? you could coat hers in a little panko breading or somethign and cut them in smaller pieces like chicken nuggets? or turkey burgers and have her help you make her own?

I would ask her parents what kind of eater she is before you go through all the work of planning stuff out. Three can be a weird age. she might get adventurous at Auntie's house and try whatever you serve. But I also know lots of parents who have kids that will insist on the same things every night (and parents give in). For the sake of enjoying your visit with her, check first, then plan what you would consider a healthy version of those foods. Enjoy your time with her!

Spaghetti made with whole wheat pasta, ground turkey or lean ground beef and marinara sauce or jarred spaghetti sauce. Grilled cheese and tomato soup. Scrambled eggs and turkey bacon or sausage.
  • BBQ chicken is a hit among my kids or when I make breakfast for dinner.

I couldn't agree with this more. Each child's pallet varies, same as with adults. I would **SO** ask the parents. My child loves healthy food, beans of any kind, adores any kind of veg-based soup, most fruits, nuts, etc. However, she has been raised having these incorporated into her diet. I don't think you could really throw much of a curve ball and have it go over too well w having a toddler over for just a week. Still, we keep offering new food and different preparations. DD doesn't like greens. I am making turnip greens today which I know she doesn't enjoy. We recently got a dehydrator and I will dehydrate some and see what she thinks. So, ultimately my advice is stick close to her preferences but allow her to try different (healthy) foods that you like.
My daughter loved sweet potatoes and eggs as a baby.....but hates them now. Not everything is a win Haahaaaa.

  • I just made eggs in a basket for myself last night...
take a slice of bread and cut a circle out in the middle
toast the bread a little bit in the pan on both sides
crack the egg into the hole
    cook it over easy
top it with some salt and pepper or a little shredded cheddar :)

maybe add some sliced fruit on the side? I always love avocados with a little salt as a side with my eggs, but I know that's not for everyone. Good luck!

    THIS ^^

My son will be 2 in January. He's always eaten what I eat since he started solids. But when he's away from home he eats all the junk they give him too *shrug*

This! I had my 3 1/2 year old nephew staying with me for two nights and all he wanted was cheese and avocado. He asked me if I had killed the chicken myself or if it was hit by a truck (because those are obviously the only two options).
