Hockey and Beer and Pizza

I don't really drink on weekdays. I watch every Blackhawks game with friends either at houses or at bars. They probably all have like 5-6 beers. This is like 3 times a week. I had one beer yesterday, but, I sat there thinking "there is no way I could ever make any progress at an appreciable rate if I did that". Of course, I just think these things, but, I don't say it because its irrelevant to them. Throw in a couple large pizzas and I'm basically screwed if I partake. I'd probably crush 1000 calories with 3 beers and a few slices of pizza.

This doesn't really affect my social life because I just say I don't want it. I don't give some lengthy reason about goals that no dude gives a F about. If I do, you can be assured they would look down on me and say a few is fine. People don't understand set points and they figure if they drink 5 days a week and don't gain fat that anyone can. Thats not the case. They are just as fat as their brain wants them to be, but, thats another topic.

I guess the point here is that social life is just a pile of temptations. Luckily, I don't need to be drunk to have fun and I don't need to eat pizza all the time to be happy. More beer for everyone else. Cheers.

Some days I partake and drink whiskey/wine and smoke my cigars, but, not often.

That, my friend, is the key to happiness.

    Well said.

I have fallen into the beer nights as well, and with CFL playoffs coming up quickly, it's so hard to say no to beer and football. They were made to go together, you know?

I tried making deals with myself "Ok, after Grey Cup I'm back on the wagon" Nuh-uh, because there's still my Packers games to contend with until Superbowl. So I have a few months of depressing off-season to deal with, and the rest of the year of many beverages and plates of wings? I need to get a grip and get one fast. Learn to say no thanks. I am not doing myself ANY favours.

I don't drink often, but I'm going to the Sharks game for my birthday on Saturday. Definitely going to take a day off and have fun.

Hockey is my family's thing too. We have a bit of a rivalry since my husband is from Columbus & a big Blue jacket fan while i being from near buffalo have always been a Sabres fan. We watch all the games, go to the games when we can, plan whole trips around good games in Columbus... So, of course there is beer & bar/stadium food. When I was strictly counting every calorie etc, it was a little hard cuz it's no fun to stop & log & count & subtract &&&&. In all sincerity tho, at the same time my husband was not strictly counting & had no set goal, but was trying to be conscious of not over doing things, portion control & was having some very good results. But he would get flack for ordering a light beer or stopping at one slice whereas nobody would blink as I ordered an ultra light beer or skipped pizza altogether. Guys get their manhood challenged for making healthy choices, but being independent is also a very admirable quality in a guy. Hang tuff, enjoy a beer (a light beer, if you'd like) have a slice (pick te pepperoni off, dab off the grease if it makes ya happy) and really only thing you probably need to reconsider would be your loyalty to a bunch of thugs like the blackhawks ;)
    Go Sabres!

My advice - become a Flyers fan. You'll lose your appetite very quickly. It might make you drink a lot though.

I'm sorry, I can't help a Black Hawks fan. My father will disown me.
