Adjusting weekly goal... any opinions?

I started out last week with a goal to lose 2 lb/week because I have so much to lose. 1 lb/week just sounded too slow.

I've stayed on the diet since starting and have lost 2.2 kg = 4.8 lb so far. And I've increased my daily exercise. And I haven't gone over my calorie quota once yet.

But I'm beginning to feel that the daily limit of 1650 calories is just a tad too tight of a limit to maintain for a really long period of time and that maybe "slow and steady" is a bit better.

So I changed the goal to 1.5 lb/week instead which increases the daily before-exercise quota to a more livable 1880 calories/day.

The nice thing about this place is that it's easy to adjust your goals. And it is a "day by day" diet, which helps make it feel flexible.

I guess I don't really have a question. I just felt like sharing. :)

Thanks,

doug

Thanks for sharing that. I have to stick with a realistic deficit so am down for 0.5 lb per week which is 1800 (net). I have to still enjoy my food and not feel hungry or deprived ever! I also don't get upset if I go over my calories occassionally. Well done on your weight loss so far.
  • I think it's smart to do something you can live with. In the long run slow and steady will be better because you will have developed a healthy lifestyle that you can live with and be happy. Good luck on your journey!!

I did the same when I started out. Because I stay under my limit, I was actually eating way too little and stopped losing weight after a few weeks. Bumped it up to 1 1/2, and still stay under. Have lost a steady 2 pounds almost every week since, and it is working for me.

Hopefully it will for the next 15 weeks. Though the last few are always hardest to lose I hear. Haven't been at this weight since my daughter was born 20 years ago. Am actually down 45 pounds from my highest weight two years ago. Found this site in August and decided to complete my goal started then.

    Good luck on the journey.
  • Thanks for your supportive notes, people. It sounds like we are all of common mind and all in the same boat! Or bike, in the case of bsexton3. :)
