Help

Hi guys I need your help.I am having a hard time recording my cals burnt.I wear a heart rate monitor (FT4) everyday, but I am not so sure about the cals burnt sometimes it will say over(2000cals). At the gym my classes are as named butt&gutt, abs&arms,Latino dance and none of these are listed what do you suggest I do.

I would just make sure that the stats you have on your HRM are accurate (age, sex, weight).

I usually log my calories burnt just as my HRM says (I have the same one).

Have you paid attention to your monitor when you are wearing it before classes? Does the heart rate seem correct then? Does it jump around inexplicably or stay pretty close to the same number when you're sitting or standing still outside of an exercise atmosphere?
  • THanks guys.....monitor stays the same before class and it does not jump around....so I suppose it's correct.I am 5ft 6in,202.2 lbs ,38yrs old and the zone it's giving me is 119-156.

    Need more details...

Are you getting 2000 calories just from your classes or are you trying to use your HRM like a Fitbit or BodyBugg and wearing it all day? How long are the classes? Are you doing more than one class per night?

Burning 2,000 calories seems VERY unlikely. Make sure all of your inputs into the HRM are correct. You can compare your HRM to MFP's database. If you're doing cardio, use "aerobics, general" and if you're lifting weights use "strength training"; both are in the database. I would log the lower number.
  • Sorry this number is from wearing it all day, the classes are 45 min on a Wednesday and 90min on a Saturday.

Ok that makes more sense. HRMs are not intended to be worn all day, only during cardio type exercise sessions. If you want an all day calorie burn estimate, you'd need something like a FitBit or BodyBugg.

To get your calorie burns for your workouts, only engage the HRM during your classes.
  • Ok thank you very much minnieinmaine.

This exactly. Not going to be accurate for all-day use!
