I couldn't sleep and messed up hardcore. Can I give myself the day off from tracking?
The thought of writing tracking it all down stresses me out and makes me feel worse about myself, so....
What happenned is I couldn't sleep got up at like 4/5am and ate big(!) protein vegetable meal I think because I had eaten too much sugar(fruit, cannation no sugar added cocoa) last and my body was craving protein to balance things out. A hug salad, two steamed artichokes, broccoli, tilapia, braggs berry dressing, too much dark chocolate, some milk with diet hot cocoa.
I can't remember ever being this full so early in the morning if ever for a loooong time! I could't sleep at all despite efforts before after eating so I went did an errand, will go for a walk if I don't crash(body probably need that most) before an early afternoon commitment.
Can I give myself the day off from tracking? I know I've gained weight but not how much. How long should I weight to weigh?
I am already beating myself up insanely; I hate my sleep problems as they are totally undermining everything with no solution in sight!(I tried drugs but its not for me) so yikes
Any and all advice greatly appreciated. I am sooooooooooo hard on myself about everything a long term pattern I'd love to finanlly be able to break
And loose weight again too!!

If you want my permission to feel better then sorry. My advice is no. Tracking stuff takes like 5 - 10 min to write it all down. And if you skip one day like this you may start a new chain and skip another day/time then another until you stop tracking at all. This stuff is slippery and spreads like infection.
I know you already feel bad. But that is ok. In fact, that is good, you have to feel even worse and writing stuff down will make that happen. So go and beat yourself up. But realize that it is always in your powers to not give in and you did, so beat yourself up a bit. Use that feeling of screwing up as a fuel for motivation not to screw up next time, remember how you felt. Lack of sleep and being tired is not a valid excuse... it's just an excuse.
Focus on right things. Tomorrow is a new day and you can do amazing in it, so don't focus on past for too long. Same goes for wanting to ate when you should not, just take a few minutes and think about right things - how great it would be to lose weight and how proud you would be, when you want to pig out, instead of how good it would taste and feel.
This is what helped me. Just take 10 min before every meal you have, or want to have, close your eyes and think, focus on right things. If you make that a a habit then it would be great. I remember myself wanting to pig out and then doing this for 10 min, then I went and put down stuff back in fridge cos by focusing with closed eyes there for 10 min I made myself feel bad before I even started, so all the want went away. That is a useful tool. Helped me a lot.
Good luck. ^^0 -
Don't be so hard on yourself. It happens. And one meal is not going to undo what you've been working at.
If you feel that logging what you ate will be too much of a stressor, don't do it. Just get back on track for your next meal.
I do understand that sleep problems are a pain in the backside. I have apnea and average 5-6 hours nightly. Have you seen a physician about your sleep problems?
I wish you well.0 -
I really wanted to start by sharing my embarrassment with you guys, and I'm grateful, very much so, that I could.
Am I the only person this insane? How common do you think it is to dip into an unexpected bodilly funk like this?
Do you think its physical (sleeep deprivation)? Do you think I need to stress about my choices? Have you heard crazier? What kind of stuff do sleep deprived people tend to do? I honestly feel like eating yogurt and berries now a bunch, 3 and a half hours later.
Many many many many thanks. Gratitude= yes.0 -

It sounds like maybe you are having issues with anxiety? And obviously binging.... I think you should still track your food. It's not going to be pretty, but the truth will eventually set you free? Talk to your doctor or a therapist about the anxiety and binging. If you are not already on medication, you may need it. Don't continue to go down the slippery path of going backwards. Run, don't walk to some assistance! :happy:0

Thank you! I do have reactive hypoglycemia which also in addition to life and lack of sleep biologically contributes to anxiety when blood sugar goes off kilter.
I don't have an accessible meter right now but maybe I'm getting more and more sensitive to spikes as I attempt to reduce my plain greek yogurt and berries(though the sweet tooth is not satiated at all) so every time I indulge a little bit it sends me through a brain for anxiety whirl....

Today my meals were that breakfast fish With a mountain of veggies the dark chocoloate
too much plain greek yogurt and blueberries
A mukti green kombucha drink
A spinach cucumber salad big
a little Dark chocolate and I don't know what else yet.....
I notice the dairy seems to help with sleep at night(L-tryphtophan but not available as a supplement locally) but....
How could I get better at portions without buying stuff? What do you suggest I change?
Wow are you guys increadibly helpful!! No words sufficient for a thank you
The other thing I should mention is that I can't remember the last time I could actually sleep if I was hungry or became enough to feel it, but I can't fall asleep after eating big meals cause of acid reflux. SO I NEVER SEEM TO GET THE RIGHT BALANCE. SORRY
I meant blood sugar meter.
Many thanks again!0 -

Purchase a generic blood sugar meter at Walmart or at Kroger store. They are reliable and cheap. The strips are cheap too. Start taking your BG 2 hours AFTER your biggest meal of the day. If you BG is higher than 180 (new ADA guidlines) then you need to look at what you ate and adjust it to reduce carbs and fat. Hi fat meals such as pizza etc or fried fish will up BG's too. Many people sensitive to the oils they are cooked in etc.
Make an appt with your doctor too. Have blood work done, if it's been a while. If you are T2 diabetic, that condition can increase appetite. There are diabetic medications that will help stabilize your blood glucose (BG) and REDUCE APPETITE, so you will feel more in control. Metformin is a pill. It can help some diabetics with mild apptitie suppression. Victoza and Bydureon are injections... They stabilize BG and reduce appetite BIG TIME.
Make a plan for every day ahead of time for what you are going to eat. Portion size and all. Just eat what was planned, no going back to the kitchen to a little more.
Lastly, eat SLOWLY. I bet you are shoving the food in fast. Mindlessly gobbling all you can. STOP and slow down. Look, feel, taste the food. And when it's gone, tell yourself that's ok. You will get to eat again later. That meal is not the last of of you whole life!!!!!!
Good luck.0
