to walk or run

Hi pals!!! I've been running since the end of august. well doing this exactly: 2 mins jog at 4.5, 1 min sprint at 5.7 (both no incline). This week i want to switch to 2 min walk on incline and 1 min sprint at 5.7 no incline. I'm trying add intensity to my cardio.

What do you all think?

    Treadmill? It's worth a try, you can also add a decline on some runs to use slighlty different muscles. You might also change up the intervals, like do a shorter walk (1 or 1.5 minutes) longer run (1.5-2 minutes running but not at a sprint).

    Since you are use to running, my guess is, if you walk your cardio will drop, unless you can find a way to walk that will make it hard for you.

    Over all, walking is better than running, only cause running it harder on the joints, but young lightweight people never notice that part of it. LOL

    shorter walk? really? is that "effective" as far as burning more cals? and what muscles are burned at a decline? and by "run" do you mean a little faster than my walk but not a fast sprint?? Imma rookie, i know....

    I'm not that young lol!! and i think i need to invest in a pair of good running shoes. I've been working out in my "lucky" shoes and gear since feb 2010!

    First of all, way to go on the 34 lb loss. Running is personally something that I have never been able to push myself to do for more than 5 minutes. I've done the Couch to 5k and I've done this 18 minute sprint program as well. In the past, I have found a great benefit in walking on incline. The greatest lost that I've ever head during any weight loss program, I did this for a week. Warm up 5 minutes, walked on 10 incline for 20 minutes and alternated the speed between 3.5 and 4.5 then 5 minute cool down. I lost 7 pounds my first week of doing this. It was recommended by my cousin who is a bodybuilder that refused to run. In his words, he wants to save his knees and he gets just as much benefit and if not more.

    sweet!! imma try that incline tomorrow. today i did 7.0 incline walk for 2 mins, then 1 min sprint no incline. it felt pretty good. but imma def try to take it up to 10 tomorrow THANKS!!
