I have been on this journey for a yr and a half and I am getting frustrated. I should be at my goal weight by now. However I have only lost 30lbs. I keep losing and gaining the same freaking 4lbs. I know it's not muscle because nope clothes don't fit better, they fit the same! I have no health problems, I eat the foods, I do the workouts, And lately it feels like it is for nothing! I cant get over this hump! Before anyone asks my diary is not open. My diet has been approved by my doctor and nutritionist. I just want to know what did you do to get over the bump? And by bump it has been at least 6 months of the same 4lb loss/gain

Your diary isn't opened. But if you aren't losing, it's probably because you're eating too much. Did you change your calorie goal after losing 30lbs? The less you weigh, the less you need to eat. Or you're under estimating how much you're eating. Over over estimating your calorie burns.

My diet has been approved by my doctor and nutritionist.
I'm not at all saying you should open your food journal. Mine isn't open to the public either. Something to keep in mind is that doctors and nutritionist, despite being well trained, don't always know what's best for each individual. It could simply be that what they approve isn't the best for YOUR body.
I know that my doctor has okayed my diet a bunch of times (said it's healthier than his), but I actually GAINED significant amounts of weight. I'm now seeing an applied kinesologist who also agrees that my diet is great, but has made a few changes here and there to suit MY specific body.
Maybe seeking out a 3rd opinion may be a good idea!
It could just be that starting a new exercise, or adjusting your calories/food consumed may make a difference.

I know my diary isn't opened. I stated that.I am not eating too much. My food is prepped and weighed. I still have a lot of weight to lose 40lbs. So I eat under maintenance. I track exercise with my hrm. I am not overestimating calorie burns. Thanks tho...Anyone have advice to get over this hump?0

Maybe change up your workout. Do you just do cardio or do you do weights too? If you were doing more weights than cardio, maybe you can even it out a little more. Or if you do just cardio, mix in weights.

I don't know much more than most.
I do know that our bodiescan get used to a particular workout regimen and that will cause them to not burn as many calories. Do you shake up your workouts by targetting different muscle groups and using different motions to do so? That's my best idea.
I've read that when you plataeu, the best thing to do is shake it up a little. Change your diet slightly (even if its already healthy) and change up your exercise. That way your body doesn't grow accustomed to what it's doing.

not sure what exercises you are doing...whether you are changing it up and whatnot....for me, when I hit a plateau for a few weeks....I finally busted through it when I shook up my routine. Went through a cardio-fest for a week. Almost like I was training for Olympics or something. It must have registered with my metabolism because the next week, I started losing again. Everyone is different though.0

I'm just going to point this out:
If you believe that eating fewer calories than you burn every day will result in weight loss...
And you are not losing weight for a month or more...
Then you are eating more calories than you burn every day.
So either you are miscalculating calories in or you are miscalculating calories out.
It's pretty simple.
Please note, a month or more is important. Normal body weight can easily fluctuate by 3 or 4 pounds. If you lose a pound a week, it's possible to not see any weight loss over 3 or 4 weeks. If you are set to lose half a pound a week, 2 months can go by without any apparent weight loss.0 -

What are your stats? How many cals are you eating daily?0

Also, maybe you aren't eating enough.
Sometimes, when I feel like my weight has stalled, I'll have a double cheese burger and fries. Then go back to counting my calories. I usually end up losing. I think a lot of extra calories sometimes reset my metabolism or something.

Motivation: Congrats on 30 lbs! You can do this!
Support: If you are eating and exercising perfectly to your doctor's recommendations and you are remaining at an unhealthy weight, I think you need a new doctor.
Reality: If you really want to lose more weight, open your diary and get more specific about what you are doing in the fitness and nutrition sections. Only listen to the people who have lost significant weight and kept it off.0 -

it is hard to suggest things without knowing what you are eating. It is great that you are using a food scale...that is the first thing I usually suggest.
i was SHOCKED how much two tablespoons of peanut butter was when i weighed it in grams instead of relying on the tablespoon, for example.0 -
Maybe try Zig Zagging? I agree with the rest.. it is really hard to offer you any advice since your diary is closed. When I have issues getting over the hump, I try zig zagging my calories for a few weeks and it seems to work. Time to try something new. Cut something out like meat, dairy, or eggs and see what happens. ;-)0

Yeah, this. Your responses seems as though you don't really want advice, especially since your diet has already been approved by your doctor and your nutritionist. My doctor gave me a diet plan and suggested that I focus on my eating and not exercising. When that wasn't working for me, as I told him in advance, he suggested I try exercising. When I still waan't losing weight, he lowered my calorie intake. So, maybe the best thing is to tell your doctor or nutritionist you're not losing or yoyoing. instead of being defensive about why you're not opening your diary and your diet being 'pre-approved' by your specialists. You asked for the advice but your responses haven't been too friendly. Just sayin'0 -
It took me 3 years to lose 30 pounds. Congratulations on doing it in one. Does your doctor's plan decrease in calories as you lose weight? If you are eating the same way you did 30 pounds ago you may not have as large a deficit anymore.0

Judging by the amount you wanted to lose and the fact that the diet is doctor-approved, I'm guessing it's too low for your body to agree with for that long and your TDEE has probably lowered in response.
I'd zig zag my calories or even take a week of eating at maintenance, etc. Let your body know that it's going to get some really good fuel on some days (1 day?) a week, or for a week (or longer?). If you can trick it into thinking you are full and fueled often enough, it will be less likely to slow in response to your diet.
Yes, it's the 'eat more' answer But I don't know that it has to be every day or anything. A re-feed day might do it. You'd just have to try as far as I know.
If your calories aren't too low, you can try keeping the same weekly average and just zig zag them. But if that makes some days go ridiculously low, that's no good.0 -

Sounds like you're due for a reset. If your body has adapted to your workouts and diet, that could be the reason. The only way to really find out for sure is to reset, or reboot yourself. I suggest shaking up your diet for a week. Drink tons of water to get rid of the impurities and curb your appetite. Increase protein and carb intake. Stay away from fruit and all sugars. Eat lots and lots of veggies, and NO juices of any kind. ONLY WATER! This will shake your system up and put you back on track if you're still doing your exercises. It's tough, but if you want to keep on your journey to achieve your goal, then it's gotta be done. Good luck!0

Thanks for all the suggestions. To the few of you who feel I am being defensive about my diary being closed. I am not. What you eat may work for you, but might not work for me. The post was asking for suggestions on getting over the hump. Not for suggestions on my diary. Sorry if that came off as mean or rude. I am a pretty friendly person. But again thanks for all the suggestions that were offered. I am going to tweak a few things and see if things have changed by the end of the month.0
