Mid-30s woman looking for weight loss and fitness pals

Hi all,

Longtime lurker, first-time poster. I have been using MFP for the past few months with great success: I have lost 19 pounds and I am about halfway to my goal weight (not sure if I'm going to lower the goal, but I figure I might as well get there first before worrying about it). Tracking calories and exercise has been working wonderfully for me, and I'm looking for friends who are similarly enthusiastic!

I exercise about 5-6 days a week, usually alternating between swimming, jogging and using the elliptical machine. Jogging is new to me and I am excited by my progress with it. I'm a former competitive swimmer, so swimming is almost more meditative than a hardcore thing for me. I am daring to dream of a triathlon, but that is def a ways away since I'm still a sucky runner. We shall see! So, looking for other people who are excited about exercise and def open to friends who do the strength training thing, which I admire and am intimidated by.

Oh, and I'm 34, 5'3 and at around 151 pounds now, with my current goal set at 135. Would love to have short pals or other people who are around the halfway mark to cheer on through the winter.

Hope to hear from some similarly-minded folks!

Hi feel free to add me as a friend. Our stats and goals are close. I'm 5'4" and currently 161 lbs. I've lost over 20 so far and my goal is 135. I'm also in NY!

Hi gabby - where in NYC do you swim? I was swimming at the public pools during the summer but now they are closed. boo.

@elisbeisme: I swim at the Vanderbilt Y on 47th Street, which is an all-around excellent facility. They have two pools and one is almost solely used for lap swimming (sometimes a couple lanes are given over to masters or a class, but most of the time it's just lap swim). The place is pricey--regular cost is $93 a month--but they give a lot of employee discounts and either way it's worth it to me since I'm there most days of the week. It's a bummer it's not free like the public pools, though!

@betharin and other NYC folks with close goals: Glad to have you as friends! Totally open to the idea of IRL workout buddies!
