Have you ever binged before?

Sometimes I'd have these really crappy binge episodes where I'd just inhale food (when I was recovering from anorexia I'd binge thousands easy). They're a lot better than they used to be but sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who's ever done this.....Have you guys ever binged and how badly? Do you ever end up eating something you know you shouldn't?

Yes. Frequently, up until a couple weeks ago. Probably 5000 a day at the worst.0

Yup, massive former binger here. I remember one of my worst days as driving home from the supermarket with an entire roast chicken in the passenger seat, while eating a block of cheese like it was an apple. It probbaly wasn't even my worst binge, just one of the more memorable ones.
After working through some issues, I realised that the binging wasn't about the food, or the eating, or even an eating disorder - it was self harm. I'd get down on myself and freak out and instead of cutting or other form of self harm, I'd gorge myself.
The other thing that triggers binges for me is anxiety. It's like I try to squish the butterflies in my stomach with food.
But I recognise it now, and while I will eat a large amount of unhealthy food now and again, it isn't quite a binge and I know whay I do it.0 -
Everyone has binged at one point in their lives. I ate a whole Halloween bucket of candy in 30 minutes simply because I wanted to. Others may binge for emotional reasons or due to significant hormonal adaptations which impair hunger cues - such as in your case after recovering from anorexia. Recovering anorexics are also in a hypercaloric state during refeed due to their bodies wanting to quickly replace the weight they lost. Combined with impaired hunger cues, they can easily eat in excess of 4000 calories and still feel hungry.0

Yes, it was really bad. I just had this ravenous hunger that wouldn't stop. I would eat fatty foods I have never ate before. I would have fat wraps, 4 bowls of cereal, supreme taco and canned ravioli all in one day. I would eat until my stomach hurt and I would eat where no one would see me. I threw out all evidence of my binge and would lie to my parents, telling them I wasn't eating anything. I would also constantly buy huge amounts of food from the halal trucks outside near my college streets.
It was terrible and I feel ashamed for what I have done but I am proud of how I changed. Everyone at work now looks up to me for healthy food choices. I feel so much better about myself.0 -
