I was just wondering if others have had this same side effect from taking Cymbalta ? And if anyone has been able to lose weight while still taking it ? I have already started to ween myself off, but it well be at least 2 months till its out of my body I'm sure. Thank you for any input.

Have you stopped taking it? And if so, have you noticed a difference yet? I lost 35 pounds not long before I went on antidepressants for the first time. I gained about 25 pounds on Zoloft and the doctor suggested switching to Cymbalta to help control my weight, but since then, I've gained another 15 pounds, which puts me at my highest weight ever. If anything I've been more careful about what I eat and have been doing Crossfit 3 times a week with a 3-4 mile moderate to strenuous hike once a week. I am giving it my all and still gaining! It makes no sense.
I have an appointment with the doc today to see about weaning off of it for good.0 -
The same anti-depressant can cause weight gain or loss in different people. The first time I took Citalopram (Celexa), I gained 15lbs. I lost the weight and then some when I went off it, then went on to Effexor and gained weight again, even though this brand of anti-depressant typically causes weight loss. I've gone back to Citalopram and have since managed to lose a few pounds this time around (so maybe the initial gain wasn't even due to my medication, who knows). At the end of the day, if you think your medication is affecting your weight, just try a different brand--there are lots of options out there.0

Well I did go to the doctor and have been weaning off of it now for the past 2 months. It has been awful the weight gain from it about 30-35 pounds. So I feel any thing I been doing the past few months has not really helped. So down to the 20mg now and soon none. I well update. Thank you for your input.:flowerforyou:0

I agree about trying different brands. I tried three and some made me gain faster that others, but they all made it impossible for me to lose. I finally took my last pill a little over a week ago and have since lost four pounds. FOUR POUNDS!! After the scale didn't budge for over a year. The withdrawals sucked a little but if you're weaning off of it with your doctor's help, you should be fine. I am a little more irritable, but I also feel more happiness and sadness. I never thought I'd miss the sadness but it's so great to feel something again! I'm also sleeping MUCH better. That alone has probably affected my weight. Good luck to you!0

I've had no issues at all. My issues were with Lyrica.0
