Hey guys! My journey begins!

Hey guys, my name is Ezza (well, my nickname anyway) and I'm a 23 year old female living in Sydney.
I've always had a problem with my weight. I'm a tall girl (never been petite) at about 5'11 I think... I'm not too good with my conversions.
Anyhow, at my heaviest this year I've been at 83kg, which is 183 pounds and according to my BMI I am in the 'overweight' category.
I've decided to make these changes to my life:
I've cut out:
Coffee
Chocolates/High Sugar products
Eating desert after dinner
And minimised:
Lots of dairy such as cheese
Sugary juices
Soft drinks
And started eating more regular meals such as brekkie, lunch and dinner.
I've actually lost 4 pounds so far (it's been about a week and a half) and I'm feeling a bit happier, not as sluggish and depressed. Mind you, this is with no EXTRA exercise on top. I walk to uni and stuff (a few days a week which is about an hours walk) and do horse riding as a hobby (although not too frequently)
Should I keep up my changed diet? If I'm losing weight, do I need to add in additional exercise?
Or the better question is... Is my metabolism as sluggish and crap as I thought?
I'm looking forward to getting support from a community such as you guys! It's so hard getting it in the 'real' world

Hi there!
Well you are in the right place for the support. Sounds like you are doing great if you have already lost 4 pounds.
My tip: I recommend some exercise. If you are just starting out you could start with short walks and as soon as you notice a difference you will definitely take longer and faster walks.
Keep up the good work and don't give up!0 -
Hey Ezza, welcome! You should think of yourself as making a lifestyle change, first off and not as a diet, so I would say yes, keep up on your changed diet and as you lose weight you will need to continue changing it. Plus, over time, you will learn to recipes and how good food can really treat ya! Second, about the exercise, you should eventually start adding in walks, jogs, then strength training because your body will get use to the work out and it will need something more challenging in order to improve and gain muscle, endurance and stamina. Also, I know how you feel about the 'real' world support. I think I'm the ONLY person I know that does not want to drink ever single night! But I think even I keep sticking to the way I want to live my life, I will meet new people during my new hobbies that share those hobbies with me. Yay new friends! :flowerforyou:0

Cheers guys for the support!!!
It's so hard when people left, right and centre are trying to offer me chocolates, coffee and cakes! I swear this place is like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory!
A lifestyle change is definitely a better way to put it! The first few nights of not having desert actually bordered on being painful but since then I haven't had any sugar cravings after dinner (which is a good feeling!)
And I'm proud to say I no longer am 'stinging' for a Coffee
One of my main motivations to get healthy (apart from the obvious = to live longer xD) is because I'm going overseas to the USA next year and I want to fit, healthy and confident. And learn some self control before I'm yet again exposed to your large restaurant portions and Key Lime pie xD. I've got until June 2014 to reach my goal and dammit I'm gonna get there! xD
Yay new friends!!!!
