Hi all
i am dreading the winter ahead. i run on brick floor not on ground. but i am dreading that in winters i wont be able to run despite wearing warm clothes.
will running on the ground be a better option or is it the same.
This is my first experience so i am really nervous.
Because i want to run but within a month it is going to be so cold that i dont think i will be able to run.
All people who run in winters what are your suggestions.
What are the things i will be needing like gloves etc.
Regards

The usual outfit for me at around -20°C would be long running pants, sport hoodie with a shirt under it, gloves, winter hat and a scarf, or a shirt with long neck. If it's around -10 then same without shirt under hoodie. The general rule is to dress like it would be 10° warmer than it actually is, so if you run at zero degrees I would still wear just a t shirt like it would be +10°. Works for me, don't feel cold and never got cold.
Brick or ground is pretty much the same. At least not that I notice any difference. When it's snow on ground and it is not cleaned rode then it is harder to run and you might need some running boots so you don't get snow all around your feet and your feet wet. But it's harder so it's better cardio, kinda like running at beach where sand is deep and dry vs the beach where sand is hard and wet.0 -
there is going to be no snow. just fog.0

How cold does it get where you live?
If it's seldom below 0C you will probably be quite comfortable in a pair of running tights and a half-zip (medium weight) top.You don't want to overdress when it's cold out as you're likely to overheat while running. You should feel slightly chilly at the start of your run - dress in layers, sometimes t takes a little experimentation.0 -
It can go as low as 1 c but not below that ever. And because i jog at around sunset so it will be better.0

This is the coldest in my city (country). So it is VERY cold for us0

I find those temperatures quite comfortable for running. I agree that you shouldn't overdress--I would go for long tights, a long-sleeved tech shirt, a vest, and some sort of hat (running cap or light tech hat). I often wear gloves at that temp but usually have to take them off after a mile or two.
But everyone's cold tolerance is different, so experiment with clothes to find out what works for you--you'll quickly find out. And don't go by how you feel when you walk out the door--you should feel a little cold until you get going. Takes about a mile for me to fully warm up, then I'm really glad I didn't put on too much.0 -
Hi - you should be fine as one you get moving you will be VERY surprised by how warm you get! If you really feel the cold then you should be fine with a long sleeve running top, gloves and running tights - they may look thin but the technology is awesome and they are designed to keep you warm. I also use a headband to cover the tops of my ears and keep my earphones in
One thing is a must though and that is winter running is usually in the dark so invest in some high visibility wear. This can vary to nice running jackets and long sleeve tops if you would like something to also keep you warm but I personally get really hot when running (the cold weather gives you reason to keep moving!) therefore I find a high vis bib / arm bands etc all work well.
Good luck and enjoy!!0 -

Ha ha! I don't call that winter that's spring for me!
I think you will do fine - dress appropriately and there should be no problem.
Good luck!0 -
Does it snow where you are? I assume you're in Pakistan by your profile pic. I make sure i wear wicking layers that I can peel off because no matter how cold it is once I get going I get hot. I also have running cleats for snow or ice. I like Stabilicers.0

It will take a little adjustment, just like in the summer when it starts to get very warm out. Just plan to slow down at first and experiment with how many layers you need. At around 0C I wear a medium weight top with a moisture wicking tee or tank underneath, running tights, lightweight gloves and an ear band. I actually found I preferred to run in the cold! Good luck!0

That is actually pretty comfortable running weather. Cold is easier to run in than heat.0

In that type of weather I would wear: a long sleeved wicking t-shirt (mine are half-zip with thumbholes so they cover half of my hands too), tights or capris, regular shoes and socks and probably thin gloves. I might add a band covering my ears on a particularly cold day. I wouldn't want to get too warm once I started going, so I would probably feel a little chilly at the start and then be fine once I got going.
I agree with the poster above too who said to make sure you have some reflective gear on if you are running in the dark. Good luck!0 -
Moistuer wicking under garments and dress in layers so you can easily remove items as necessary. Also I wear a pair of Brooks Ghost GTX running shoes they are gortex lined and my feet have never gotton that cold in the winter (I live in southern michigan). I wear just a thin pair of moisture wicking socks The trick here is to stay dry expecially the feet once I get wet and its cold out im done. Wear two layers of gloves I wear a thin running pari and maybe a thicker cotton jersey glove one that I normally remove after running a while. I also wear a hat that covers my ears again unless the wind chill is in the teens I normally end up removing that also. As it gets colder your body accomidates to the cooler weather its not like it goes from 80 degrees one day back to 20 the next of course it has happened on rare occasions usually in march april time frame. Good luck.0

Sorry I had a full list of winter running layers to write about but -1 I still run in shorts at -1. I don't wear long tights until it us at least -5. I know that is most likely feels cold and damp but there is nothing to worry about you can run anywhere at that temperature.0
