Age 46, need to lose 52 pounds, creating new set points

Hi! I'm Carla and I'm 46 years old. I first really dieted with Weight Watchers after the birth of my second child 17 years ago. I lost 35 pounds and even became a Weight Watchers leader. But, I slowly put back on the weight + much more. Over the past 13 years, I've gained and lost 10-18 pounds over and over using all sorts of diet methods. Now, at 5'2" and 190 pounds, it's time to get serious and get this weight off - not only for looks, but also for my health.

I always seem to get stuck at certain points and have realized that those weights were the ones I've held for long periods of time, or set points. I've been reading a lot of articles online, and I want to try losing 10% of my body weight and then maintaining for a bit to create a new set point. I plan to do that 3 times to arrive at my weight goal of 138 pounds.

Anyone having difficulties or successes with weight set points?

I never got to a set weight because I would fall back into my old habits. :embarassed:
This time I'm doing MFP with the help of lots of MFP supporters. Rather than points, I'm trying the MFP method of 1200 calories and gaining calories back by exercise - not unlike WW. It is a lot like WW in that you need to log your food and exercise. I think the logging is the most important part - it keeps you aware!
I have my diary for friends to see and I would love to have you as friend for support and to give support. I appreciate open diaries as I love to get ideas from others!
    Good luck with MFP!

Thanks, Hopeinmn! I've sent you a friend request. I lost weight with WW before the points system, but when I was a WW leader, I taught that program. I don't like that there are "free" foods, because they of course have calories and with WW, they go uncounted!! I'm aiming for 1200-1500 calories a day. I've been able to cut out about 700 calories a day just by leaving out Cokes (I was drinking up to 4 cans a day) and junk food snacks. How long have you been using MFP?
