CHINESE TAKEAWAY!

Hi all!!
It's the boyfriends Dads birthday tommorow & the whole family are going over to have Chinese take away!
Taking my own food isn't an option as they already frequently cater to my needs when it comes to eating so I will feel rude...

But could anyone advise me on some of the healthy/lower calorie dishes you can order from Chinese so I won't feel too guilty about it! :)

Thanks in advanced

Its 1 special occasion meal, order and eat what you like. Stop eating when you are satisfied, not when you are stuffed. Drink lots of water to help reduce the water retention and go on about your business.

This is true.. I may just have what I want but like you say, stop when full!
I don't have much control when it comes to Chinese :/
    Thanks

I'm never healthy when it comes to Chinese, so I just wouldn't worry about one day and go with General Tso's chicken, fried rice, and crab rangoon and eat it all.

I have a Chinese takeaway at least every fortnight, sometimes once a week. I eat like a pig and still loose at weigh in day because I'm strict throughout the week. One blowout a week won't kill you, sure you might not lose as much as if you were super strict every night but for me I wouldn't enjoy healthy eating if I couldn't cut loose without feeling guilty. So my response, don't calorie count, enjoy your evening. You won't wake up monstrously fat, just enjoy yourself

Chicken and broccoli is my go-to Chinese meal, though it used to be beef and broccoli. Chicken is just slightly better. I prefer lo-mein noodles, but white rice is probably the best option you can go for. They're both pretty high in calories. If you don't have extra calories for the day or can't exercise, you might want to skip the wonton or eggroll, or just have 1/half. They aren't as bad for you as I expected them to be, you just can't go overboard.

Thank you for all your responses..
I had a blow out meal on Sunday as a 'treat' so didn't want to be too cheeky & slip into bad habits again!

I didn't even think of exscersising more to allow for more calories!!
I shall make a big effort to walk the stairs several times at work tommorow & hopefully it'll make a dent in the damage :)

Ditto. Chinese food is really the one way I treat myself about every two weeks. My favorites don't have all the heavy breading, but I love me some Mogolian beef with brown rice, and an egg roll. (And, if I'm at PF Changs, I split a piece of Great Wall of Chocolate cake with my sisters!)

And, if you're thinking about weighing in any time soon, best to wait at least two days after eating Chinese because of all the sodium.
  • Every time I order chinese I just get steamed mixed vegetables (and either chicken or shrimp, if you want meat) without sauce. They will send the sauce on the side too and you can determine how much you put on.

Sauce on the side for whatever you get. Steamed not fried. General stuff like that. Beyond that chinese isn't that bad as long as your portion size isn't crazy.

Shrimp & vegetables, chicken & broccoli, moo goo gai pan... Just think chicken/shrimp, light sauce, no fried meat, and no egg rolls. Good luck, I couldn't do it :)

I dont know what chinese takeaway is, but when we go out chinese buffet i usually eat salad, sushi, crab legs, cocktail shrimp and maybe a few bites of the less healthy stuff like fried dumplings and crab rangoons. These are my cheat days of course.

    Beef with Broccoli
    Chicken with Broccoli
Shrimp with Broccoli (see my theme here!? HA!)
    Kung Pao Chicken
Pot stickers - ask for steamed or pan fried, not fully fried

Stick with dishes that aren't fried. Get lots of veggies, and keep portion sizes in mind rice, etc.

I love these portion reminders when I'm out for dinner:

Limit your alcohol intake (if you drink) and try to stay away from the big sugary drinks. You'll be fine! Have fun!

I'm going to take a look at that portion sizes link now, thanks!

Think I'm going to go for Beef in black bean sauce (as its my favourite)
With boiled rice & a few prawn crackers (as I can't resist) and hopefully it shouldn't end to badly!

I weighed myself tonight instead of tommorow as I knew what I was in for!

    Thanks for all the advice!!

I figured as such, just never heard anyone refer to take out as takeaway. must be broken engrish.
