I will walk and run outside no matter what the weather. Snow and cold weather won't kill me and I have those spiky things for my shoes so I can keep up my pace without slipping.0

1) Keep logging what I eat
2) Keep planning my meals
3) Switch to indoor exercise (just bought a treadmill) because it gets darned cold up north
4) Keep setting short term targets for myself (ex. when I hit 50 lbs off, when I do more than xx kilometers in a week, xx lbs by yy date)0 -
I won't change most things, but I'll be eating a lot of soup because it's filling and low in calories. I'll also try to go to more exercise/yoga classes since I'll be outside less.
Holiday parties are tough not to binge at. I might bring some healthy options if it's a pot-luck type thing, or I won't eat much before I go and then make healthy choices.0 -

Steak makes you gain weight? How big are your cuts, what sides are you having with it, and what are you putting on it? Get a reasonable size steak and limit the sides, then you can have it as often as you want and still lose weight. When I went home during the summer I had steak every other week and still lost weight, it's too tasty to give up.
But I'm planning to keep on doing what I've been doing. I can have whatever I want, just in smaller amounts. I'm also going to remind myself where I was a year ago and that I never want to go back there again.0 -
I'm actually trying to lose more weight this winter. My plan is not to do any holidays. To do the least possible in that regard. Like to show up for the shortest time at the home of some relative and just having already eaten something within my cal goals and allowing extra cal goals for that meal (probably earned thru workout) and not taking home leftovers. not attending parties before the holiday. not sending or making anything for school events around that time. not going to extra library or store events during that time. and not sending out christmas cards so people can't get my new address and send me sweets or anything as a "sorry can't be there" type gift. any gifts of food husband brings home will go to the next homeless person i see driving around if freshly made. or if still i it's package regifted. that's my plan. just this one year. next year i'll have all my extra maintenance cals to work with and so i can handle it. this year i just plan to have a get it over with mentality.0

The main change that I make during winter is to switch to winter vegetables, especially onions, potatoes, and cabbage. I eat more hot meals. Usually this means cutting the veggies up and microwaving them until cooked. I also stock up on canned crushed tomatoes, which provide the base for what you might call a soupy stew. The stew serves as my main meal of the day. Here's a sample:
1. Organic crushed tomatoes, half a 25-oz. container: 130 calories, 26g carbs, 7g protein, 1,170mg potassium, 975mg sodium
2. Large yellow onion, diced: 150 calories, 80g carbs, 10g protein, 60mg sodium
3. Cheddar, 2 oz: 220 calories, 18g fat, 14g protein, 360mg sodium
A few shakes of hot sauce, which I don't log. It has zero calories and about 150mg of sodium.
Total: 500 calories, 106g carbs, 18g fat, 31g protein, 1,170mg potassium, 1,395mg sodium (not counting the hot sauce)
I dice the onions, spread them on a microwave-safe plate, cover with another microwave-safe plate, and nuke for about 10 minutes. While they're cooking I pour half a can of the diced tomatoes into a microwave-safe bowl and add the hot sauce. When the onions are done I remove them -- with towels because those plates are hot -- from the microwave and transfer the onions to the bowl. I crumble the cheddar on top and microwave, covered, for another 5 minutes. Stir and enjoy.
Be interesting to see how I do with the cold this winter, seeing as I'm 38 pounds lighter than I was a year ago. It can get cold even in Florida, plus my blood's thinned from living here for a decade. When I was at the weight shown in my avatar photo from 11 years ago I literally turned blue from the cold during one walk because I acted as though I still had padding. I (hope I) know better now.0 -

Eat all the Turkey, Cookies, Candy, Ham.. Completely enjoy the holidays for the time of year.. have dessert and attend holiday parties.. and eat in a deficit while still exercising.0

I gained 15 lbs last yr between now and Feb so I don't want to do that again.
1) staying out of stretch pants
2) no steak until after Feb (because these are the months I put on the most weight)
3) go to gym 3-4 times a week or walk outside
4) don't eat late at night
5) brush my teeth at night or chew gum so I don't eat.
6) don't go to every eat out social event or try to socialize more instead of eat
and eat only 1 plate, no seconds.
7) eat a lot of protein,nuts,cheese, beans,peanut butter to fill me up
8) limit time with negative people,more problem solving,less whining (emotional eater)
any more tips would be appreciated!0 -
I'm actually not going to have a Turkey Day dinner I'm choosing to stay at home by myself this year. Also the same for Xmas day so I don't have to worry too much about the holiday meals and keep busting my *kitten* in the gym.0

Agree on the gym. No going outside until April for me.
4) don't eat late at night
I will eat late at night every night within my calorie alottment
5) brush my teeth at night or chew gum so I don't eat.

and eat only 1 plate, no seconds.
I tried to do this so many times and then I would feel defeated before I got there and then stuff my face. I'm going to all the events and will eat a moderate amount of food and enjoy the holidays

I am tired of being so cold all the time so I may just bulk up again for the winter. or I'll just buy a jacket. haven't decided yet.
serious answer: keep doing what I'm doing..... I'm confused because I don't know why it would be any different in the winter. I am spoiled enough to live in California so I can still work out outdoors, but if I didn't I would just go to the gym instead. do foods have more calories in the winter than they do in the other seasons? are Christmas and Thanksgiving more than two days out of the whole entire year? again, I'm confused.0 -

I'm going to continue to log everything. I'm not that active to begin with, so winter won't slow me down! I think the last 7 months of dieting has really taught me how to balance eating and life. I'll be going on a holiday for 10 days in December, returning on the 23rd, just in time for Christmas festivities. December will definitely be my hardest month. My goal will be to get right back to logging my food and lose whatever weight I gain on holiday. I will be at maintenance stage before the trip so hopefully I don't do too much damage!0

In my case, it hinges on taking advantage of the fact that winter temperatures where I'm going to be in Texas are actually in the temperature ranges that I feel more comfortable doing outdoor exercise in. It doesn't change much in my plan, overall, but it lets me get off the treadmill and go outside where I can really push myself.0

I'm in Canada with brutal winters. I do however plan on buying some snowshoes, we have some great trails where I am and the crisp weather helps burn more calories when you're trying to stay warm!
I bought free weights and a bench and The New Rules of Lifting for Women. I also joined a women's strength class that runs until December 20th. I keep track of every exercise we do, and now, with the weights at home, in January I'm going to start strength training at home for Christmas and thereafter. It's exciting!
I also converted my basement to a home gym with a treadmill, elliptical, weights, TRX, and lots of fun workout DVD's for when I want to mix things up.
Just make it fun for you - try something you've never tried before. Do an indoor dance class if it's not nice out during the winter. And DON'T use holidays as an excuse to eat more. Stay in control, and allow yourself to eat everything offered (if you like it or want it), but stay within range!0 -

I am just going to stay true to my goals - workout, eat well and be happy! Yes, I plan on having turkey dinner just like I did on Thanksgiving (I am Canadian too :P) and it was fine. Just one plate, load up on the turkey and veggies, and not too much of the mashed potatoes... it's all good. I can eat whatever I want to in moderation and if it fits my budget for the day, that's how I live and how I plan to for the rest of my life to stay in great shape (once I get to that great shape ).
As for the typical holiday baking treats, I only eat what I really love and skip the rest. No more guilting me into eating things just because a coworker baked it or even if my mom made it, if it's not my favourite and I'm craving it, then I don't eat it, plain and simple. Some people get offended by that because they feel I should be obligated to eat certain things, but that's just too damn bad.
The best part of this season is... mandarin oranges! MMMM
As for workouts, yeah Canadian winters are no fun, so I plan on doing Jillian Michaels dvds and stuff like that more often in my apartment rather than braving the treacherous roads to the gym. Especially cause I live on top of a hill.0 -
Winter is easy--summer is hard! Once it gets hot, running is miserable so I don't burn nearly as many calories. I ran last winter down to about -30F (we were in Finland), which to me is far preferable to anything above 75F.
I have a few strategies for holidays, like eating a small meal before a party so I can enjoy a few treats but not pig out because I'm starving, but some years I just accept that I might gain a little between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's all good--there's a lot of winter left to get the pounds off, and since I do a spring half-marathon every year I know I'll be doing structured running from January on.0 -

Summer bodies are made in the Winter so I am going to fit some exercise into every day and visualise how great I'm going to look in a new swimsuit on the beach in 6 months' time0
