I have never really dieted and I need some help. I work full time and my biggest downfall seems to be when I'm working and trying to catch a bite to eat. It seems like I eat everything that is bad for me. any ideas for packing a lunch for work. I have tried the frozen meals and it just doesnt work for me.

Welcome. I have been on MFP for 3 months, starting my 4th. It's the best decision I have made in many years. I have lost weight with diets many times before, but it was never a lifestyle change. This time is different; it's a lifestyle change, not a diet. Good luck on your weight loss journey. Please feel free to add me as a friend; we can help motivate each other.

Hi! Glad to see you join us at MFP. I've been using it for 2 months now to track my calories and nutrients and it's been so much easier for me then a lot of fad diets.

As for lunch ideas, I make sandwiches using Nickel's 35 calorie bread slices, Kraft Mayo with Olive Oil and lean meats like roasted turkey, ham and some roast beef. You can make 2 sandwiches for under 350 calories. A lot of non-cream based soups are low in calorie and pretty hardy, too.
  • Hi and welcome! I usually make extra of my dinner so that I can take it to work the next day as lunch. I use my crockpot like crazy and start my dinners in the morning before going in to work. Usually skinless chicken breast with a low fat marinade. Or olive oil with a mcCormick's seasoning pack with any meat. I also use fat free lean pork chops, soups, just about anything I can think of. There are a kazillion crockpot recipes on line and everybody on MFP loves to share recipes. I already know which side dishes I will make to go with the dinners: rice, whole wheat pasta, always a green veggie (frozen bags in the freezer) etc. I hope I helped. The key is to plan ahead, don't wait until you are starving to start looking for what you want to eat. -Gina
  • Thanks for the ideas. I have three growing kids which included two teenagers so its always hard to try to grab some extra dinner. LOL

I am really going to try hard not to go the fast food route for awhile.
  • I take a selection of food to work - a Special K cereal bar, some cherry tomatoes, a low calorie yoghurt, a piece of fruit, a sachet of low calorie soup, some carrot sticks and a sandwich made with 40 calorie a slice bread, low fat cheese slice and wafer thin ham - this gives me seven mini meals so I can graze throughout my working day and always have something to snack on.
I used to take a low calorie ready meal, but I find it much easier to have lots of different things to choose from, and the calories aren't that much different.
I do work long hours though - 12 hour shifts. But this works for me, and with breakfast and dinner either side, I always come in at around 1200 calories.
