Too much sugar!!

Hi all,
I've just joined FP and already I am looking for guidance! I'm starting with a one month challenge that is fairly aggressive: 1700 calories per day. The problem is, I only have 33gm of sugar-and I go over EVERY DAY!! sometimes by 4 other times by 9. Should I adjust my plan? Seriously; a small banana, a small apple 1 slice of bread and I'm pretty much done! help?

This is a very common question.
The answer is that the goal set is that set by the USDA for added sugar, not naturally occurring sugar. There are arguments on each side as to whether they are equivalent, or whether naturally occurring sugar is "better" somehow but the point is that the number is misleading. The goal does not take the fruit in sugar into account.
If you don't have a medical reason to track sugar, you may not want to bother. It doesn't make you fat. Calorie surpluses do.

sugar is a carbohydrate so as long as your tracking carbs, you don't need to separately track sugar. best to just track carbs and add fiber in place of sugar. your net carbs are your carbs minus your fiber. keep the net carb count down. use the keto calculator to set your upper limit on carbs. I've been as low as 20 net grams of carbs a day but find I feel better at 50 to 100. MFP will let you go to 300 which is too much.
those who suggest sugar is ok are simply incorrect. keep carbs under 100 grams (sugar included) but don't add sugar to anything ever.0 -

What is hypoglycemia, is it something everyone should strive for, due to sugar not being ok?0 -

I'm pretty sure fruit is the only thing you can eat as much as you would like because the sugar that's in it is actually healthy. That's why I pay more attention to WHAT am I actually eating and I'm really self-conscious about it, instead of being obcessed with the number of calories.
Good luck with your challenge :flowerforyou:0 -

carbs under 100g?
do you want me to malfunction or something?
but yeah my sugar is like around 200g a day and I'm far from fat
also where is this "written" that 300g of carbs is "bad"0 -
Unless you are diabetic or have other health issues... going over sugar is fine.0

This is almost as absurd as the "doctor" on TBL last night saying Diabetes is curable! I suggest further research on your part. I did mine when I became the care taker of my grandmother who was Type 2 Diabetic. Not all sugar is created equal. <100 grams of carbs? You must not be doing any type of sustained cardio work.0 -
