My trainer and nutritionist says resistance training first followed by 30-45 mins of cardio for optimal fat burn.. :)

This might help. It suggests mixing it up: do weights first on heavy days, followed by cardio; Cardio first on light weight days.

Do what feels good, always warm up, always cool down, stretch, hydrate, fuel your body, and most importantly, MOVE. Might not hurt to get a tutorial or overview of your gym's equipment, they generally will do this free. Also, one session with a trainer isn't too expensive and will at least get you started. Best of luck!

Ok, thanks for the info ladies! I guess I've been doing it all wrong : )
I guess I kinda felt like I needed to warm my body up before lifting but I guess I'll go for a light warm up and head straight to the weights afterwards. I'm not too tired, I'll go for more cardio afterward.
