Why am I losing more weight than intended?

I inputted all of my info into the MFP app and set it at having me lose 2 pounds a week. I have been very strict keeping track of all diet and exercise, inputting it all and matching the amount of calories I am told to eat. After two weeks I have lost 14 pounds. What am I doing wrong? :(

I don't think it's a matter of doing anything wrong at all. If the past two weeks are your initial two weeks in your journey, and you hare completely changing up your eating habits, drinking more water, and exercising, then it may be the shock to your system, and some of that weight may have just been water weight! Also, in the beginning, the pounds do seem to come off easier. I wouldn't be too worried about doing anything wrong, but it will eventually slow down and even out as you continue. :)

Can't see your diary, so can't say much. Also, you don't give your current calorie allowance, weight, height, etc. If you're extremely overweight, you'll lose a lot at first, especially if you've restricted your calories at a low level.

Edit: Also your workout calories burned would be a big help.

Water weight from eating changes and less sodium.

Water weight from storing less glucose with water.

You'll gain most of the latter back when you eat at maintenance. Which is OK, that's LBM, and is actually a drop in metabolism when you lost it.
Bummer to drop metabolism that fast, but usually can't be avoided for that factor.

    This.

If you have more weight to lose, you can lose A LOT during the very first weeks. I know a person who dropped 10 kilos the very first week (about 22 pounds?). But then it got slower and now he's happy if he gets to those 2 pounds a week lose.

Also, something to keep in mind; sometimes when you select the lose 2lbs/wk option, MFP will set a calorie limit that results in greater than 2 lbs/wk. It'll tell you on your goals screen what MFP actually thinks you'll lose every week, might want to check that.

Also, some is prolly water weight if this is new.
  • Thanks so much for everyone's quick and helpful responses! Hopefully what I'm doing is right. Can't wait to see my six pack

I too dropped a lot of weight during the first two weeks. From what I've read here, we'll gain about 5 of those pounds back when we start eating at maintenance.
  • Similar thing happened to me - have lost 9lb in my first fortnight. I feel like I have to tell people I'm not on a crash diet - I'm not. I think the quick loss of weight has something to do with laying off the junk food all of a sudden - There is certainly less sodium floating around in my body, and who knows what else.

So long as you are eating healthy and not overdoing the exercise, I wouldn't worry too much, and hopefully your weight loss will be less dramatic soon.

The more you have to lose, the easier it is to lose in not he beginning. You likely depleted your glycogen stores and lost some water along with that. Keep it up!
