Hi there -

New person here, nickname Thrift Store Mama. I also blog at www.thriftstoremama.com

I've just moved to a new area with a fantastic rec center and have met a great personal trainer, so I'm feeling super motivated right now.

I've gained about 1 pound a month for several years now, so hoping to get it off for good. At this point, I'm just trying NOT to eat junk food and/or fast food and to work out 4 times a week, burning 400 calories each time. I lost 10 pounds a few years ago, kept it off for a year, and then put it right back on.

I've read some things about how people who are trying to lose as much weight as I am should do more strength training than cardio - does anyone have links to some sound research done in this area ?

  • Hi Thrift Store Mama, my name is Janel and I'm also on the shorter side (5'2"). Currently I weigh 153 but at my heaviest I was 195; when I started my most recent journey I was at 174. Anyway, I workout every week day and have logged in for 284 days now. I try my best to be a good, supportive and encouraging friend so feel free to add me!
