Book Club!

Any other big readers here?? I thought it would be fun to make a book club. We could read a book weekly or monthly and take turns deciding who picks the book. I looked through the groups already and there's a couple that aren't active.

    BUMP again

My thought is to let different people pick the book weekly/monthly (whatever we decide). I'm in a book club currently and the idea is that we end up reading books we sometimes would not have picked up otherwise.

Woohoo! Later tonight or tomorrow I'll create the group after seeing how many other people are interested. Any ideas for a name of the book club?

I read two to three books a week. Wouldn't mind sharing what I read, but I'm not really looking for recommendations.Im into the Robert Crais, John Sandford, Lee Child style of mystery writing at the moment.

Not into Female writers as a general rule. Not a sexist; they just don't have the same persepctive as me. I will make an exception for Faye Kellerman.

While I'm handing out my unsolicited opinion, I have to say I will never own a Kindle or any other on-line book. I like a REAL book to read.

I said the same thing about kindle until I got one for Christmas  Still read real books though. And yes, Faye Kellerman is great. What about Patricia Cornwell, ever read hers?

The book club I'm in also takes turns picking books. The only thing I don't really love is historical or sci-fi. My monthly book goal is between 12-15 books

Patricia Cornwall is one of my wife's favorites, so I've read her; just can't relate. I have a Used book store down the street where I can trade. In there every week or two.

Every one in my family has a kindle, but me. I'll never own one and, while I'm showing my stuborn side, I'll never use the self check-out at the store.

Never. Ever. Ever. Ever. And you can't make me !!!!

For TheRoadDog: Patricia Cornwell (as someone else stated) is an author you might like, and give Tess Gerritsen a try.

I don't text either. Got my first text a couple years ago and didn't even know it. My daughter picked up my phone and saw it. I told her to open it. She did. It was from a fold riend of mine. I told her to text him back and tell him "I don't text. If you want to talk to me, call me." Never heard from him again.

Admittedly, I've never read ANY of these authors but I'd be willing to try! I'm going to create the book club now, hope we can get a few more people involved :)

Titled it Bookends Book Club (I really bad at naming clubs, found the suggestion online  ). I started to add people who replied to this thread but anyone feel free to join. Looking for anyone else who wants to be an admin or mod for the group. Let me know and I will add you.

i'd like to possibly dip my toes in this. i might end up being just a lurker though. i used to be an avid reader, but have slowed down with work and all these electronic thing-a-ma-bobs distracting me. i would love to re-introduce more reading into my daily life again though. just not sure i could keep up with y'all getting through 2 + books per week.

I doubt we'd read that much for this particular group! I was thinking either a book weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly - this way we can appeal to more people who may not read as much. Will send you an invite :)

I'm in, but will likely only be able to access Kindle available suggestions. I was in the "I'll never have an e-reader" club until 2 months ago. And I'm not big on gadgets. I use a Tracfone and a 7 year old Toshiba, and that's it! But Kindle has renewed my enjoyment of reading. I've read more in the last 2 months than in the last 2 years, because we live deep in the country, and access to libraries/bookstores is difficult. Just the fact that I have anything I want to read right there, all the time, instantly, wow!

I love real books, too. But I never thought I'd like my kindle so much :)

I also just started using the self-checkout. I feel so progressive ;)

I like hard boiled crime, romance, mysteries, soft core horror, erotica, and some non fiction. A few recent reads that really touched me, Theodore Sturgeon's Almost Human, The Survival of Thomas Ford by John A. A. Logan, and surprisingly, Anne Rice's The Wolf Gift - not as well-done as Interview, but okay. I just started James Lee Burke's Light of the World. He's my all time favorite writer.

Do I go find the group, or will you add me? Thanks!

So what to read first? I am reading "Two Graves" by Preston & Child (on Kindle). A Pendergast mystery.
Just reread "Jared Southwick - a good read about societal differences.

Welcome! We're currently reading Light of the World by James Lee Burke. I think we'll make a new selection on the 10th?
