I have seen many therapists for emotional eating and binge eating issue (we have moved around, a lot, which is why I've seen several). I have had lovely experiences with all of them, but it was not helpful with my eating. I am sure that many people have had luck with this, but for me, it seemed like we were delving into lots of deep issues, and the reality is, my perceived "emotional eating" was just a result of terrible habits, that I learned from my parents. For me, it was a matter of becoming willing to stop the madness. Something that really helped me, was the book "Brain Over Binge." It kind of helped me put my overeating into perspective. It still takes a lot of work, but if you are willing and committed, there's a way to put an end to the madness. Good luck!0

Yes. I am currently in therapy, weekly. While emotional eating is only a part of what we talk about (I have many other issues;), it has helped me delve deeper into why I think the way I think and do the things I do regarding food & lifestyle. (I emotionally eat/binge. I do not have anorexia or bulimia.) The poster above has a good point about how she has developed a habit. My therapist gives me tools & suggestions about how I can turn habits into thoughtful behavior. I've had many over the years and I'm lucky to have an exceptionally supportive & highly trained/experienced in eating disorders. She has helped tremendously and given me a safe place to explore some deeply rooted behaviors. It's not quick transformation, but I feel that I am really changing on the inside as well as the outside. I highly recommend it with anyone who struggles with their relationship with food. Great question and good luck to you!0
