Steel Cut Oats

This weekend I bought a container of Steel Cut Oats instead of the quick oats I normally buy. Can anyone share recipes that use Steel Cut Oats? Thanks in advance!

    I soak them overnight in the fridge with almond milk. Four parts almond milk (or water) to one part steel-cut oats. Bring the liquid to a rolling boil, then stir in the oatmeal and let it boil for about a minute or so. You can add a little salt if you want. Remove it from the heat, cover it and leave it overnight in your fridge for 8-12 hours. Add fruit (dried or fresh), nuts, sugar/maple syrup, cinnamon, etc. in the morning. Stir it over medium heat to recombine it with liquids and heat it up if you want it warm, but I don't mind it cold, too.

    Use a crock pot to prepare them overnight.

    Before bed, coat the inside of the cooker with butter to keep the oatmeal from sticking, then add in the oats, water, coconut or whole milk, and brown sugar. Stir it together, set the cooker to low. Top it with dried fruit, nuts, or maple syrup.

    INGREDIENTS
    Butter
    8 1/2 cups water
    2 cups steel-cut oats
    1 (14-ounce) can unsweetened coconut milk or 1 3/4 cups whole milk
    1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
    1/2 teaspoon fine salt
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Coat the insert of the slow cooker with a thin layer of butter. Add the water, oats, coconut or whole milk, brown sugar, and salt and stir to combine.
    2. Cover and cook on low until the oats are cooked through and creamy, about 7 to 8 hours. Stir in the vanilla and serve immediately.

    I love steel cut oats. Never thought to do anything with them besides make oatmeal. A little brown sugar and some dried berries in my steel cut oatmeal and I'm a happy girl.

    I put 1/4 cup oats, 6oz plain chobani, chia seeds, LSA and berries into a container, mix it up and leave it in the fridge overnight. I add some cinnamon and banana before serving and that's breakfast done!

    I just eat them plain with a sliced apple -- no sugar or anything else. I love them and would feel deprived if I had to eat anything else for breakfast.

    I do basically the same. Soak overnight 1 c oats, 3 c skim or 1% milk, 1 c water. Bring it all to a boil along with 2 whole cinnamon sticks and a bit of sea salt. Simmer 10 min or until soft, then add 2 TBSP brown sugar and 1 tsp vanilla. simmer 5 more min and enjoy. Great with strawberries, bananas, or Craisins. We had this today in my house for breakfast and I plan to have it the next two days...makes about 6 servings. Yum.
  • I like them with almond milk, fat-free Greek yogurt, frozen raspberries, chopped pistachios, chopped dried apricots, dried cranberries and splenda or stevia to taste.
