Work out routines?

Hi,
I have been looking for a fitness routine to help me get into better shape. Changes to my eating habits is helping me lose weight but I want to also improve my fitness level (strength and cardio). I have heard about things like p90x and insanity, but those seem a little, well, insane. I am pretty novice and don't want to drop over $100 on a work out that I will sit on my couch watching as I try not to die from the first 3 minutes.
Any recommendations?

If you're going with P90x, you can do the workouts and pause if you can't. Or, you could also do them in a lower intensity level, to which you can follow along easily
ETA: In P90x, they show alternatives to the workouts that might work for people that aren't used to doing them.0 -
