I followed a calorie counting diet with another website years ago and every week when i weighed in my daily calorie intake reduced according to what i lost

so far, i've lost 5lbs on here and my calories are stil the same

Do they automatically reduce after a certain loss or how does it work?

you can also do it manually if you like by going to settings and update your diet/fitness profile and just press update on the bottom

When you lose weight, you will require less calories for fuel so it's important to keep adjusting calorie intake after losing a significant amount of weight. Your BMR will be lower and if you kept eating the same as if you were at your original weight - you may be eating into the "deficit" you are trying to create to lose weight.

You can manually adjust daily calorie goal in MFP :)
