Must loose weight or head will explode - IIH sufferer

Hi,

My name is Rae and I am 27

I suffer from IIH - Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension

Basically, my brain is making too much of the cushiony fluid around it and now it is causing vision / hearing problems and horrendous headaches

Also have underactive thyroid and arthritis in spine

Doctors have told me the only thing to help these are to loose weight, easier said than done right?

Any help, ideas or support would be very welcome

So here goes nothing :)

Its not easy but possible recovering from bowel cancer and 3 major surgeries I went to 308lbs after years on steroids with complications including eyesight problems and steroid induced type 2 diabetes.

With diet alone I lost the first 40lbs which helped a lot then another 50lbs with exercise as well, it won't be easy but your health depends on it so be positive and go for it.

Log everything you eat accurately, I weigh everything, and so long as you maintain a deficit you should lose weight.
  • Hi Rae,

I am 26 and also an IHH sufferer. I know too well the symptoms you describe. I have had problems with my vision and even lost sight in one eye which has with hard work and a greatest cal team been reversed. I'm looking to lose the weight and say bye bye to IHH. May we succeed!
  • Hi, I just joined MFP for this very reason, I'm 28 and also live with IIH. Same symptoms, which I am hoping will be a huge motivator in my journey to lose weight. Keep your head up, we can beat this.
