Cutting a med cold turkey

I'm not sure which topic this is supposed to be posted under, sorry!
I wanted to know how others have felt after stopping a medication cold turkey, particularly a neurological medication.

So I have been advised to go off Seroquel and without thinking I abruptly stopped last week! I completely forgot that I should taper off of it and now I am wondering if anyone has any experience with stopping a medication abruptly and how long they felt sick for and their synptoms?

I feel funny but not sick. I have a dull headache and kind of nauseous where nothing looks appealing but I have a stomachache from not eating. I have ADD to begin with so I struggle to actually get into bed and close my eyes. I"m such a child I swear. I don't feel well enough to exercise or do anything to be honest.

So i was on 200 mg a month ago and then a week later went to 150 mg, then a week later 100 mg and then stayed on 100 mg for a while and then 50 mg. I have been on 50 mg for about three weeks now and abruptly stopped on Sunday.
I just want to ask how long I will feel gross for. The pharmacist says 6 weeks potentially but I know in the past I felt sick for a lot less. Just curious what others have experienced.

For the record- I was prescribed Seroquel to simply help me sleep and help with my mood. But after gaining weight and feeling sluggish 24/y my doctor has agreed I can come off of it.

Definitely check with your doctor, but since you started at 200mg and went down to 50mg gradually before stopping, it sounds like you were tapering your dose. But still... put in a call to your doctor to make sure.

Talk to your doctor. Don't take any advice from the internet!

My boyfriend was very slowly stepped down off of low-dose Seroquel by his doctor a few years ago. He took it for the same reasons- pretty much just for sleep. He had sort of a "cloudy mind" feeling and the upset stomach side effects too. But after his doctor finally took him off the lowest dose, the side effects went away within 3-4 weeks. Try to stay active- no need to do intense exercise, but just go for long walks every day. Helps calm and clear your mind, and of course any activity is good for your weight loss goals. best of luck to you :)

If you quit last week it's kind of a mute point to worry about it now.

Ask your doctor those kinds of questions...
You can have different experiences as other people to the same medication.

Most drugs that affect you neurologically have instructions to taper off. Take half the regular amount for a week, 1/4th the amount, etc.

I'm sure there are reputable websites that can help you out with this, or ask your doctor. Don't trust what you hear on MFP. Not even me. Ha.

Hahah this is what I thought too! I thought she meant still frozen. I was thinking "maybe let it thaw all the way until you try to cut it, that will be bad for your knives." And then I thought "wait, this is a strange topic..."

If you're having few symptoms, I wouldn't worry about it. A few years ago I went off prednisone cold turkey, against my doctor's advice, and yes, I was shakey for a day or so. But that was it.

You said you forgot to taper but then you described how your dose gradually decreases - that IS tapering I think. Anyways, call your doctor.

Thanks for the posts everyone and love. Sorry for some of the confusion lol
So for the record: my nausea is going down but I think it's because I am making sure to eat right away when I feel slightly hungry rather than wait around and get a headache from my hungry.
