I knew road food was bad, but it's really really bad

My husband and I took a road trip from Chicago to St. Louis this past weekend, leaving on Friday and getting back late Sunday afternoon. We had to attend a funeral and while there went to my cousin's new BBQ and Blues restaurant. Now, between road food (I'm too ashamed to even mention where my husband wanted to stop and eat), funeral food and BBQ, not to mention sitting in a car for 11 hours roundtrip, I knew that this would not be a stellar weekend fitness and diet-wise. However, I was NOT expecting a 6 lb weight gain in 3 days! I felt like crap when I got back yesterday as well. I actually thought I was watching my portions (of crappy food) . .well not really the BBQ was delish.

Probably mostly water weight from eating lots of salt.0

That's what I'm hoping. Drinking lots of water today. . . and tomorrow . . .0 -
It is more than likely due to your sodium intake. My guess would be that you're back to good in a couple days.0

Can't always be in control of what we eat
Just get back to it.0 -
I'm sure it's just water weight. I don't think it's scientifically possible to gain 6 lbs in 3 days. Your body can fluctuate 3-5 lbs daily.0

I just did a road trip to help my grandmother move. Almost all of the weight I appeared to have gained was water weight and I'm right where I should be now given that I took a week of maintenance rather than actual weight loss (couldn't log, decided not to worry).0

Sometimes all we can do is make the best choices out of bad options. Most of that could be water weight, but at least you are planning to get back to your normalcy and routine. One bad day or even weekend doesn't need to go any further. That 6 pounds should drop off in no time.0

Just a guestimate, and I may be wrong, but a pound is 3,500 calories so to gain 6 pounds/3 days you would have to consume 21,000 calories over your BMR. If your maintenance is 2,000 calories per day you would have to consume 9,000 calories per day during those 3 days. Right? So yeah, probably salt.
Keep doing what you're doing and you should be good to go soon0 -

You are all right! It was water retention from all of that sodium laden bad food.. I weighed myself again this morning and I had dropped 4.5 lbs from yesterday. I'm back on track!0 -
Eat a banana or potato, the potassium helps with salt bloat.0

The majority of a 6 lb gain over a three day period is almost certainly going to be water retention. Give it a week or two to work out of your system.0
