problem with sugar allowance

Before I started MFP, I ate stuff like cookies, cake, etc. almost every day. Now I never eat them and just try to eat fruit instead. I don't count natural sugars (like in milk and fruit) since I don't go crazy with dairy or fruit. But I have a sweet tooth, and while i can totally avoid cakes and cookies for a while (like I have so far, for about 5 weeks)as well as any other foods that have added sugars in them. But I am not the kind of person that can avoid cake and cookies forever. So I make "made-over" versions of cake that have less sugar in them but it's still 24 grams a slice, which puts me over my allowance. It only makes me 4 grams over, but I'm trying to track sugar because I have a lot of fat around my stomach and I heard sugar is to blame for this. I never go over my sugar because I never eat sweets, but I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! I should be allowed a piece of cake like once a month! I can't stick to MFP if I can never have that, and I'm wondering how much going over sugar is going to hurt me. I'm not even overweight...I just have a lot of stomach fat. So my question is, with sugar allowances set so low, what are you other people out there doing for sweets? Obviously, I could do artificial sugar, but I can't stand the taste and don't want that junk in my body.

I think once a month is fine as long as you don't go nuts! I let myself have a meal i don't count twice a month but I also make sure not to go too crazy (ie maybe pizza but not pizza, soda, tons of bread, etc).0

Try dark chocolate, strawberries, and lite whipped cream. All three are relatively low in sugar but will hopefully appease your palate.0

Whenever you deny yourself something and say that you are going to cut it out for good, you are seriously setting yourself up for a disaster!
Instead, have something small every now and then to keep those cravings at bay. Then log it in to MFP. You might have to eat less of something else or workout extra that day, but that's OK. The thing is, you are not denying yourself and you are still making progress.0 -
This is YOUR "JOURNEY." The great thing about this being a "journey" is that you are in control - you are in the driver's seat. You get to choose what you eat and what you don't eat. If being over on sugar concerns you - then add a little more exercise to your routine to compensate for it - exercising provides greater allowances on all of the areas being tracked. So, like today - I only exercised moderately - so I came very close to being over on my sugar intake. On most days, I exercise vigorously and so I am allowed more sugar intake. So, just decide what/when you are going to eat and exercise accordingly to accommodate that choice.

This is all good advice, thank you. I did work out today, actually. But yeah I fixed the problem, because I realize the recipe for chocolate cake that I was looking at had that high sugar because of the glaze that went over it. I don't need the glaze! If I just don't make the glaze, then the sugar fits into my allowance, albeit I only have 1 gram left! So happy I can have a piece of cake, the first in what feels like forever!0
