A relative of mine did it this summer, but she did it at the end of radiation treatment and with her oncologists blessing. It did help her-the pain in her surgery area went away and she actually started gaining weight again, which she needed to happen because of all the weight she lost due to cancer/radiation. She also said it made her feel like her old self again (not as tired/lethargic, due to the radiation treatments). So in her special case it helped, but it was not normal circumstances.

    Placebo effect

Are you serious? I mean, really, are you serious that there are no foods out there in this beautiful earth to assist the body in clearing toxins?? I don't know- what about cranberry juice? I mean, I'm no "masters degree nurtritionist", but clearly that is just the start of a list of foods that aid in digestion and processing of toxins....
You need to brush up on nutrition then. Cranberries (as well as blueberries, raspberries, etc.) are noted for their "anti-oxidant" properties. NOT the same as an "anti toxin".
Foods are valued for it's nutritional value, not what is can "remove" from the body. The body is capable of doing that on it's own.

Thank you all for the helpful responses. I'm usually very skeptical by nature so that's why i asked people who have experience like you all.

Bald’s Leechbook, written in the ninth century. “For one be moon-mad” it suggests, “take a dolphin’s hide, make it into a scourge, beat the person, he will soon be better.”

Most notably, the Leechbook speaks of “elfsickess," an affliction caused by tiny, invisible elves shooting tiny, invisible arrows:

No where in her post did it say or even reference pill popping. Someone with a masters degree in nutrition cannot prescribe pills and usually have no connection to the pharma industry. Where do you get your information from?

Also, if you can't stand the comments, you should just stick to logging and leave the message board to the grownups, kay?

Peer reviewed clinical studies haven't shown that "cleansing" of the body of ANY TYPE removes anything but excess water from the cells. The person with the Master's degree in Nutrition is correct. You don't have to agree with it by choice, but scientific evidence will trump opinion on this matter.
And there's no need to call anyone idiots on the site. Name calling is a result in frustration to back up argument.

That's the best part of Science, it doesn't matter if you believe in it or not, it's the truth!

Dial soap in the shower works great for body cleansing I have found. Sorry to be snarky, but we get so many silly 'detox' posts it's unreal.

Ummmm... Everyone IS saying go natural. If you re-read the original post, the OP specifically mentions "supplements for cleansing" suggested by a chiro, which is totally out of his field. The masters degree in nutrition chick you went off on actually did say to go natural - that's what you're liver and kidneys are for. Best of luck with that blood pressure of yours and stuff...

In 1610 his Surgical Cures for Erotic Melancholy, written for female patients,Jaques Ferrand suggested shaving the *kitten*, burning the thighs with acid and, for cases that threatened to turn into lycanthropy (werewolfism), bleeding until heart failure ensued, then searing the front of the head with a hot iron.

Sorry dread to think what Erotic Melancholy is. Too much porn?

On the advice of the Chiropractor i would be very wary as it is lightly he is selling something or in this case the services of his mate the naturopath.

Be careful, you might bring out the crowd that believes soap and shampoo are the reasons they gain weight.

I will defer to Penn and Teller on this one,. Chiropractic is quackery at its worst, at best its someone who knows how to give a somewhat decent adjustment,. Science trumps whatever new-agey crystal tree hugging ideas you may have about how your body works and how you can get healthy by putting pads on your feet at night and how raspberry ketones are going to send all your fat packing overnight.

"Toxins!" are the battle cry of snake oil salesmen and overpaid TV quacks.

Yes, it certainly is. When he is giving advice that is outside his level of expertise! And woo woo advice at that! Remember: Chiropractors are not medical doctors, nor are they nutritionists. You have a liver and kidneys which is all you need to rid the body of waste products. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that our bodies accumulate toxins that cannot be removed by the body's own systems. Don't sell your own body short.

OK... you win. How on earth would a supplement ( depending on what it is) not be natural. I take a spirulina supplement...totally natural. I take garlic...natural.

I think Chiropractors are awesome. I think nutritionist ( good ones) are awesome. I think you guys NEVER give good advice here and only belittle everyone eles's profession but your own. So please, continue. :) I'm totally good now!

Sorry for saying idiot...that was out of line.

Hey, that seems like a bit of an overreaction! Cheers for calling me an idiot too, I just love that. For the record I was trying to make a point about how people should stick to providing advice that they are qualified to give. Unfortunately I didn't understand what annoyed you so much about my post, but hey, we're all entitled to our opinion and thanks for so eloquently sharing yours.

Our bodies are full of toxins from the food we eat that are full of pesticide, fungicides, herbicides, etc. to the environment around us that is full of toxins that we breathe in every day! Our bodies simply just cannot keep up with the amount of toxins we take into our bodies every day. I use isagenix products to increase my health and decrease my toxicity as they are organic and full of vitamins and nutrients and aid in weight loss as well. I cleanse for 2 days twice a month and have never felt better in my life! I am a firm believer in cleansing!

Could be, but what happened coincided directly to the time that she was doing the cleanse. Whatever it was, it made a big difference for her :) Her insurance company also paid for it, so it didn't cost her anything.

Yeah, your body can be "toxic" and need a "cleanse."
There are lots of ways to go about it. But choose something that is gentle, not harsh. And not expensive or hard to conform to.
