cravings

I joined MFP verry recently (yesterday) and started recording my caloric intake since 10 days, give or take.

My biggest problem has always been my sweet-tooth. I can eat a healthy low-calorie meal, but I get cravings for something chocolatey which can jeopardize my efforts! (i have tried to substitute this with healthier options such as fruit, but still go over my required sugar intake)

So wanted to know your tips on how to control cravings. Should i have a cheat day where I can have something like a cup of hagen dasz or would that just ruin my dieting efforts during the whole week?

hello!, I would suggest getting the happy cow or fudge bars that are fat free and sugar free. I cant remember off hand the name of them but their in the ice cream isle... they aren't high in calories either.. but defiantly don't over do it! every thing in moderation as they say! At least you wont be taking in all that bad stuff and still get your sweets fix too! oh and I wouldn't take a cheat day! your right it will more than likely ruin all your progress from the following week! Hope this helps! Good luck!

Definitely find substitution or options that fit within your daily intake. Depending on your allowance, you could try "saving" up calories to have a "splurge" day, as long as your daily intake didn't drop below what is safe (1200 per day min. for women, higher for men.).

I wouldn't deny yourself completely - you'll just want it even more. I have found that if I allow myself one piece of chocolate per day, that satisfies my cravings. Pick something you really like and ideally under 100 calories - you'll still have to account for it in your calorie log. My pick is Dove Dark Chocolate and I keep it out of sight. If it sits on my desk in a bowl, I will keep eating it, but if it's hidden, I do pretty well at having only one piece. Just make sure you savor and enjoy it, don't inhale it.
