How do you keep yourself from stress eating after getting really bad news? All I feel like doing is cry sleep and eat. I have no motivation to do anything. But I don't know how to snap myself out of it. any suggestions?

Hi there!
What I do when I want to stress eat is:
1) STAY AWAY FROM THE KITCHEN!!!!!! The kitchen (or wherever you keep food) should be avoided at all costs until the urge to eat passes.
1) Preoccupy yourself. I know that may sound lame, but seriously, it works. I used to think omg who can focus on anything other than eating when you're only wanting to eat. But I read an article that said that if you use your brain, particularly if you're solving brain puzzles, your desire to eat wanes. Trust me, it works. It works so well that I went and borrowed a math book from my library (I like math, so this wasn't a problem for me to try). I clean, read, play with my some, anything to distract myself
3) Go out and get some fresh air. Stand outside and just take in the sounds, smells, the sun. Meditate and let your mind just rest.
4) Some people say to exercise when you wanna binge. This doesn't work for me. If anything it just pisses me off. Lol. But hey, it could work for you.
I hope what I said helps. Good luck to you.0 -

If you're dealing with bad news, etc., the urge to binge might be the urge to numb out whatever unpleasantness you're in the middle of. Maybe try facing it head on? Have you tried journaling? Writing about whatever is going on, even if it's just a string of cuss words and complaints against the universe. Writing can help you process your emotions. Plus, with pen in hand, it's harder to stuff your face. BTW, leave the kitchen. Worst place to be if you're on the verge of overeating.0

I force myself to do something.
Go outside, clean, or just anything but eat.0 -

I eat something crunchy like popcorn. Then I write down whatever I'm frustrated about and take a nap without thinking about anything.
When I wake up, I can read the list and deal with it then.0 -
