salba chia

Hi community!

I am curious to try salba to add taste to my meals but I never bought it and I don't know whether salba chia is the same thing as chia. I was looking for it at my local whole foods, but the customer service said that they had another type of chia, not salba. I am a little confused.

Where do you guys buy salba chia from? Is chia the same as salba chia? Do you like it?

Thanks for your help!

As far as I know, Salba is a larger more snacky food. more like corn nuts. It can be flavored and I've tried a few flavors, chocolate for one and it was good. Chia seeds look like poppy seeds, it's possible they're derived from the same thing. Both are supposed to be incredibly healthy for you though.

edited to add: just looked it up. this is what I read: http://www.livestrong.com/article/538113-comparison-of-chia-salba/

Thanks, the website is very useful. May I ask you from which store did you buy your salba?

I bought it at a local store called Nature's Fare. You should be able to buy it at pretty much any health food store or a grocery store with a natural products section.

Salba is white chia. I buy it ground on the internet. It doesn't have much of a flavor on its own but adds fiber, good fat and protein. I throw it in yogurt or hot cereal or smoothies. It really thickens things up so you may need to add extra liquid.
