Buying clothes that are too small for motivation

Do you ever buy clothes that are too small for motivation? I bought this dress, which actually was a great deal so I don't feel like I wasted very much money. It is a medium petite. I am hoping in 2 months I can wear it and look good in it . I do not normally wear dresses but I am really hoping I can pull this one off, I love it! I am desperately trying to update my wardrobe so I also bought riding boots to wear with this sweater dress. I am down 35lbs at this point with another 30 to go, this dress will motivate me. Wish me luck! I will post again in 2 months for an update!

Use the "direct" link on photobucket and put it in [ img ] paste your URL and then [ /img ] tag without the spaces between brackets.

Get rid of all that "url=" garbage, and the image should show up.
  • Wishing you lots of luck but this has never worked for me. I hope you are more successful

I have a lot of clothes that I used to wear, that's motivational for me, although I got rid of everything except for my favorites.

If I buy something without trying it on, I fear the fit won't be right when I actually get down to that size. Just because I like something doesn't necessarily mean the cut is a good fit for my body.

I've tried it in the past but it's never worked for me. I brought some clothes when i lost weight in the past and i thought they would suit my body shape, but when i lost the weight they were baggy in places or didn't sit right and looked awful so they went off to charity without me even taking the tags off them :( cause it took so long for me to lose the weight. I have some of my old clothes still so when i lose weight i have something that 'should fit' but tbh i will probably end up just staying in my larger clothes until i seriously cannot wear them any more and then buy the right size ones.

Some people do find it works for them so i hope your one of those people, i'm just not XD

I wouldn't do that just because I'm so picky about what I like and then about half of what I like doesn't look good on me LOL But if it gets you motivated then that's great!

I have been doing that. I have a brand of jeans I like, so i buy the next size down for motivation when the size i am in fits perfect or is loose. I have shirts that I buy that are a smidge tight, that i know in 5 or 10 lbs they will look awesome that I buy too. So far it works well. I only have a couple of items that I have decided I did not really care for after the fact, but I never spend much money on clothes cause I shop sales, clearance and consignment stores.

It bums me out too much to buy clothing that is too small for me, but I do get rid of the too big clothing right away so that I can't go back to them!

I've done it, but just one or two sizes down when it was cheap. And it's worked well so far (it was $7 Levi's, way too tight at the time, could barely button them but at that price I couldn't pass them up, and now not even 2 months later they fit great). I also have smaller size jeans in my closet for when I lose my last 10/15 lbs... they fit now but give me a muffin top. They were on sale and I had a coupon and it was a decent deal too.

If you're confident you'll get there, I say why not? Heck I bought a jacket I really liked and it's a little bit too big now, and I wish I had bought it smaller.

Yes this dress is probably just a half size or so too small, I dont know if the picture is coming up or not but it cost me $20. I'm pretty sure I will like how it looks once it fits and it is the kind of dress that even with 20lbs lost it'll fit and not be too baggy.

I will admit it was kind of depressing putting this on and seeing what I looked like in it. I probably wont try again for a few more months lol.

A year from now I will have no interest in the clothes that interest me now, and I'm giving myself a year to get to my goal weight. I've purged myself of clothes that are too tiny and I haven't worn in forever. I accept the size I am now and dress for it. When my size begins to change, I will buy clothes to accommodate it.

I have just 5 items from when I was smaller that are just too gorgeous/rare/expensive to be rid of, and these are my goal. But I wouldn't spend money on new items that are too small. It has just never worked for me in the past.

Good luck with the goal dress! What works for you is what works for you!

First of all, I think you look great in that dress already. I kind of go up and down with how serious I am about my weight loss. When I'm going through a good phase and loosing consistently might buy a pair of pants that is a little snug knowing it's going to fit a little bit better, but generally I don't like have clothes on hand that are too small because knowing my history I lack motivation after a few weeks and it might never fit.
