Halloween Scary Stories!

I am in the mood to be terrified, so let's all share some spooky, TRUE encounters! I'll begin...

When I was a little girl, I suffered from extreme sleep anxiety and was sick a lot due to a poor immune system. Night time was the worst thing in the world for me. The idea of having to go to my room, and lay there all alone feeling sick and scared every night was devastating. My parents would often sleep with me, allow me to sleep with them, or let me sleep in my brothers' room but no child can go on like this forever and eventually they weened me off of these comforts.

I can't remember exactly when it began happening, but at some point I remember developing a night time 'friend' who would help me sleep. She was an middle-aged woman with long brown hair, a green dress, and a cooking apron. She would kind of appear out of a certain corner in my room, smile warmly, and come sit on the side of my bed. She never spoke, but she would rub my back soothingly and I found her presence to be very calming. She only showed up when I was particularly ill, or having an anxiety attack. I loved seeing her at night because it meant that I would get to have a restful sleep and that I wouldn't be alone. I can't recall ever being afraid of her.

As I grew older and healthier, she stopped appearing. I chalked her up to being a figment of my imagination that I created to help me get through a tough time. Kids are creative like that, right?

Well, when I was about 13 I decided to tell my mom about it for the first time. We were just having a casual conversation about children and the silly things that they make up. I began to describe my experience, and the woman. Her face went completely blank, and I sensed we were no longer having a simple chat about the funny things kids say. She told me that my description of the woman sounded just like my great-grandmother who had died before I was born, right down to the green dress she always used to wear around the house. In fact, she figured, she had a photo of her. She brought me the picture, and I'll be damned, it was the woman who used to visit me as a child. My mother is a firm believer in spiritual and supernatural phenomenon, and to this day still believes that my great-grandmother is my guardian angel.

Not a terribly scary story, but strange to say the least! I'm still not sure exactly how I feel about it all...

How about you? Any spooky tales to share?

    Ok, I'm in.

When my parents split up, my dad moved into a cute little house at the very end of a dead end road. One night, we're getting ready for bed and I hear crying, but assume it's my little brother- logical right, my parents had just split and he was pretty young, 7 or so at this point. My dad goes into his room and asks him if everything is ok. My brother answers, "yeah" in a perfectly normal voice, so my dad comes into my room and asks the same question.

This is the first time we hear the crying. It was clearly a kid, but there were no other kids near our house. Again, dead end road, nothing on the other side of us. Over the next several years, we all notice things, strange shadows in your periphery, like someone was hovering over your shoulder, crying, scratching inside the wall that my room shared with my brother's (admittedly, that could have been a squirrel, but we never found any holes in), and rhythmic tapping on walls, to the point where it wasn't just something like water dripping. My brother and his friend saw red eyes staring at them one afternoon from the tree in the backyard. We got a dog and he was terrified of the house. We kept him in the basement during the day and he was so freaked out that he started chewing through the door.

Shortly before I went to college, I was putting the dog in the basement before I left for school and when I opened the door, there was a kid sitting on the top step. I jumped back and it disappeared. Clearly the dog was right about there being something weird with the basement. My dad didn't stay in that house too much longer, and I'm not sure if anyone else saw anything.

    Wah! Creepy!

I have nothing recent but my parents told me a story about how when I was a very little girl my dad pulled me out of the bathtub one night and started drying my hair while I sat on the countertop next to the bathroom sink. My dad was facing towards me and the bathroom mirror and I kept staring at something over his shoulder. Finally, I asked my dad, "who is the man standing behind you?" but there was no one there. I described the man to my dad and everything but he didn't see anyone behind him in the mirror.

Maybe I was just a creative kid making up an imaginary friend but my parents insisted that house had a ghost. Things would move randomly, lights would turn on, the TV would turn itself off and on, etc.
  • I get sleep paralysis a lot and once I was trying to sleep but kept hearing a man shouting in my ear I tried to wake up knowing I was in sleep paralysis but was having trouble. I managed to say stop back to him and eventually I was able to move again

When I was about 15 I was downstairs in the guestroom watching TV and I was alone in the house. All of a sudden all the electricity went out (in that room only). About 10 seconds later the tv turned on by itself and on the black blank screen was a white executioners mask. I ran outside and as I exited the room I saw all the lights in the house were still on. When I was outside I called a friend and freaked out. I decided about 5 minutes later to go back to the room and all the lights were back on and the tv was back on like nothing had ever happened. I eventually moved into that bedroom when I got older but it still gives me the chills everytime I think about it.

I lost 25 lbs and then maintained it for a few months but then got rebellious and regained nearly 9 lbs. I know, horrifying right? The only happy ending is that I am hiding behind the closet door with a big butcher knife and slashing those regained pounds like a horror flick right as we speak with portion control and determination.

One day I went to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich...I take out the bread, take out the knife, and grab the peanut butter out of the cupboard...I walk over to the fridge to grab the jelly, but ALAS it is nowhere to be found. I HAD NO JELLY! I had to sleep with the light on for weeks!
