breast after weight loss

so right now I'm a 38 DD (practically DDD).. I'm 21, 5'5, and weigh 150 pounds. I'm looking to drop at least 30 to 40 pounds..
now I know my breast will get smaller with weight loss. I know this because before I gained this weight, I was a 36 C.

The crappy part is that when I gained the weight, my boobs didn't just get bigger, but they got saggier over time. They used to be
very 'perky' and firm.
I'm afraid that when I lose the weight, my boobs will just deflate and look saggy permanently.

anyone out there know if I can prevent this? I heard doing a lot of arm/chest exercises during weight loss can tighten up the skin, but I'm not sure if that's all a myth.

Exercise doesn't tighten skin, like, ever. It tones muscles, which can make the skin on top of those muscles look snappier. Unfortunately, breasts do not contain any muscle tissue, they are a specialized tissue interlaced with fat. Skin is remarkably resilient when you're young, though, so it's not a foregone conclusion that your breasts are just going to head south as the weight comes off. They'll get smaller, and the skin will shrink some to compensate. And you're not talking about huge amounts of weight to lose, so that helps.

The solution to sagging breasts is properly fitted bras. Your band size is probably smaller than you think, you probably should be wearing 32s or 34s, rather that 36s. That means your cup size is probably going to be D, DD, or larger. I'm 5'8", and even when I was at my high water mark of 152 pounds, my band size was 34. I'm a 34D right now, but I might have to go down to a 32D when I'm at my goal weight, I'll have to see.

Also, make sure the straps are wide, and adjust them properly. The band size should be doing most of the work, but loose straps won't do you any favors. And racerback straps are your friend, you won't have to worry about straps slipping off your shoulders.

Or you could get your breasts surgically reshaped if you have extreme sag. I think that's an option only in very drastic cases.

yeah, I'll look into getting a more properly fitting bra- I know the ones I'm wearing now are crap.

I guess I'll just do whatever I can and hope for the best.. and if worst comes to worst, I will consider breast reshaping- but only if it's like majorly severe.

Good! I recommend going to a good department store or an intimate apparel specialty store for a professional bra fitting, and you should buy at least one cute bra while you're there. Basically the saleslady will take some measurements, then just hand you bra after bra to see what fits properly. After that, though, just go to places like T.J. Maxx and TRY ON all the bras in your size that look promising. You can score some great bras that way. Or if you're feeling adventurous, you can do the fitting yourself, trying on larger cup size bras in the smaller band sizes. The bra band should be pretty snug, but it shouldn't cut off your circulation or anything. And if you have to put it on the tightest hook/eye closure to keep it snug, you should go down a band size and probably up a cup size. A lot of people think a D cup is a D cup, but a 32D is a smaller cup volume than a 34D, etc. So if the 34D is on the tightest closure, try a 32DD. And don't be afraid of the Es and Fs and such, if that's your size, that's your size. And breasts that are properly positioned always look nice, whether small or large. Happy bra hunting! :drinker:

You are probably wearing the wrong size bra. I am 5'2" and even when I weighed in the 190's I was never a 38. If I had to give it an a guess and believe me I've had tons of experience over the years trying to find proper fitting bras. I would say with your proportions you are probably more like a 34, but more likely a 32 and more likely an F or FF. And sorry to say but they will be harder to find, but you will be amazed at the support and the difference in how your clothes look and fit. You need to find a store in your area that sells bras with small bands with larger cup sizes to be fitted because department stores and VS don't carry anything above a DD.

    Good luck!!

BTW... I now weigh 155 and I am in a 34HH about to move down in the band size again.

I've heard that green juice keeps skin from sagging...

Yes to a properly fitted bra! Check out the reddit group called "A Bra That Fits." They have a whole measuring guide there. I thought I was a 36D but I actually wear a 32F and what a difference it makes. As for the sagging... Whatever happens, happens. After gaining and losing a lot of weight and breastfeeding for almost three years and counting, my girls are far from perky anymore but I'd rather be a healthy weight than have a voluptuous bosom (and there's always the surgery option if need be). Just worry about a healthy body and get yourself a great bra!
  • thanks for all the feedback- very appreciated! :)
I will definitely be looking into getting myself properly fitted and finding the right bra.
