Hello,
I'm David, new to the site and from what I can see it's a pretty good site.
I used to be a very fit and active person until I got knocked off my push bike by a car, since then I've been a bit depressed and drinking a lot of vodka daily. I've also started an Internet company which doesn't help as I'm sitting behind a PC all day.
I get embarrassed going out because I've got so big and avoid public area's because I don't like to see people I know so they can comment on how much weight I've put on. The same goes for the gym, I don't like going because I get embarrassed.
I've just turned my home garage into another room and filled it with nice a nice multi gym, exercise bike, medicine balls and few other things. I'm hoping after spending so much money on it that I'll actually use it regularly to get back into fitness because I miss it and the things I used to do with my friends. My close friends are fantastic and really supportive which helps a lot.
I've got a long way to reach my goals as I'm a pretty big guy but hoping to get support and help others along the way.
I was wondering what people thought about Gastric bands? I was thinking of having one fitted, I know some people think they are the devil and they should be avoided like the plague but I feel I've gone to far to loose this amount of weight on my own and need some help.
You hear some horror stories but I'm hoping these are a minority and it could really help me get started. What do you guys think?
Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope to make some friends on here.

is portion control and over eating one of the reasons you've put the weight on? >< I know people who have had them successfully and couldn't be happier (gastric bypass). And I know my grandmother had one many moons ago and over ate and popped it (back in the stomach stapling days). So. There's good and there's bad, it's just how YOU look at it and if you think it will be worthwhile.
Meanwhile on the note of what other people think of you. I just joined the gym this week *wheee* I have a session with a Personal Trainer this Friday to show me the ropes and sort me out in the exercise world. I am by no means small, and I was happy when i went to the gym the other day for an initial "consult and try to take your money" appointment and saw people that were bigger than me already there doing the things that I SHOULD have been doing months ago if it wasn't for my own anxiety and apathy.
So. Jiggly bits aside, you CAN do this, and it doesn't matter what you look like now, you will be better for it, no matter!0 -
I wasnt in an accident but I went through a traumatic breakup of a long term relationship at the end of 2007. I was super depressed for 2008 drinking and eating a ton and not leaving my house. I BLEW up! I got so huge. Then I spent 2009 trying to accept that I was a big lady now and that being fat was just fine. To hell with anyone who didn't accept this new big me. Problem was is that I never could accept myself and I still hid from the world and never went out. This year, I decided to get the weight off and get myself back. Its been very hard but just in the last few months ive started going out and socializing and it has done wonders for me. I think its motivated me even more to stay on plan. You can do it. Its hard once you feel like youve gone to far off course to turn back but you will find tremendous support on this website.0

Welcome. I have been on MFP for 3 months, starting my 4th. It's the best decision I have made in many years. I have lost weight with diets many times before, but it was never a lifestyle change. This time is different; it's a lifestyle change, not a diet. Good luck on your weight loss journey. Please feel free to add me as a friend; we can help motivate each other.0
