Anxiety over Job-Interview Suit I just Bought
Hello all - I'm 62 and disabled with RA. I am a low income person and need to find a part-time job. I've been working with a State-based agency and they are about to send me out on some job interviews. I just bought a 100% ponte-knit (polyester) black suit for just under $100 from Macy's mail-order. It fits nicely, and I have a very expensive white blouse and good gold jewelry to wear with it as well as black shoes and a black purse.
My question is about it being polyester. Is that just un-cool? I am having a lot of anxiety about showing up to an interview in a polyester suit - will I be considered gauche? Do you wear poly to work?
I need advice - help!

If your interviewing to be a lawyer or a stock broker it might not be best.. but for a part time job or a simple job its not a problem.. Really depends on the interview and place your going... I seen people interview in jeans for career type jobs..0

I think it will be completely & totally okay. Ponte knit is back "in" right now even with higher end fashion bloggers.
Unless you were interviewing in the top ranks of professionals, I think it would be fine. For me, anything over $40 is a big deal and Macy's is a good place to find nice clothes anyway. Good luck with your interviews!!0 -
No that sounds like a very nice suit. It's black you'll look put together and you wont have wrinkles. What matters most is if it gives you that confidence and professionalism to help you make a good impression. If you feel it's overkill depending on the jobs you go to then wearing the white blouse w/ slacks would be acceptable.
Best of luck you will get it.0 -
don't worry too much, wear it with confidence and it will reflect during your interview. good luck0

It's ok! So long as you're dressed professionally, they will not focus on your clothes and instead on your personality/qualifications.0

Sounds like you will look fantastic, but you are focusing too much on your clothes! Be confident, that will get you the job, not your clothing! Good luck0

I agree with this. You are going to do just fine. Try not to worry too much. I am sure your suit is gorgeous and perfect for an interview. Best of luck to you!0 -
you will be better dressed than many candidates guaranteed.
Good luck!!!!0 -
Your suit sounds lovely. Have confidence in yourself! My sister has RA. I have seen what she has had to battle. If you can handle that, you can OWN this job. God be with you!0

Thanks for all the positive replies. I thought I could probably get a lot of mileage out of the slacks anyway...
Glad to hear someone supports polyester!0
