Almost at my "goal weight"

I am flirting with my goal weight. Never 100% sure if my scale is accurate or not. It reads between 135-138. It seems to depend upon which way I lean! If any of you have reached your goal weight, tell me, please, how you knew you were there? I know I am very close, but don't feel that I am truly at my "happy weight." MY BMI of 20.8 seems to be right in the middle of the healthy range, but I still feel I can do better. It's all so subjective. How do you know when "enough is enough?"

Well, I'm not there yet. When I started MFP I set my goal weight to be what I always used to say was my "happy weight". It was a weight that I could fairly easily maintain without "dieting" but I always had that 7 lbs. I wished I could lose.

When I started to lose weight on MFP without really dieting but by really being conscious of what I was eating and how much I was eating and found it to be a pretty painless process, I revised my goal to be my happy weight less that 7 lbs. I'm now 2 lbs. away from my initial goal weight and am definitely not finished. I'm really pleased with the progress I have made but would like my legs slimmer, my stomach smaller and to look more toned so I know I need to go lower.

I think you will know when you have hit your goal when you are happy with how you look (both naked and clothed!) and how you feel about yourself. Don't go too low that it doesn't look good (no matter what they say, you CAN be too thin and it's not pretty!) and remember that weight is an arbitrary number and will fluctuate. Congratulations on getting so close!!

Go by measurements, they will be accurate. The scales, as you saw, can vary on different days.

What would your ideal waist or hips measurement be? Get that goal and stick to it, that way the scales are not such an issue.

It might be good to consult with a physician who can tell you when enough is enough. In my weight loss group, we have to provide a doctor's signed consent form for our weight loss and it keeps us honest with ourselves. We have a 10 pound window, we can go up 3 pounds or 7 down from our target weight. If we constantly fall out the bottom or the top of this range, we have to get another doctor's note with a revised goal or lose/gain weight. Continuing to lose can easily become an addiction/obsession if we are not careful! Maybe you should try maintaining your current weight for a while and then decide if you would like to proceed further. Just my two cents.

Well done on what you have acheived, I'm 1lb away from my goal and I know it's the right one for me, if I go any lower, at my age people start to ask me if I'm sick or something. The trouble is I think if you are'nt careful you can get a bit obsessive about it all.

CONGRATULATIONS on you great accomplishment!!! At 5'8" and 137 pounds you are really fine. If you are considering loosing more or don't seem to be happy with your current weight, I would have to ask if perhaps you might be having trouble with satisfaction. There is a point, and forgive me here for sounding preachy, where we (I have been there) tend to push the limits and cross the line into obsession. Why not stay where you are at for a few weeks and see if you can't get comfortable at 137. Perhaps go for physical and discuss it with your doc. Just a thought. Congrats!!!
